The first thing we noticed driving up (in February) was a mud pit of a driveway. This isn't uncommon in "vineyard visiting" as we visit many each week/month, but this driveway has pot holes, puddles and deep mud. So, be sure to visit on a nice, dry day or in a 4WD/AWD vehicle!Next thing we noticed was the upstairs tasting room and the horribly worn down stairs getting up to it. There was one step that is so loose, you really can fall by stepping on it, so watch your step, especially if you're in heels!Upon entering the tasting room, it smelled a little of sewage, which is odd for wine tasting. But we went forward with the tasting anyway. The ladies giving us the tasting was very pleasant. They didn't seem to know much of anything at all about the wines and were simply pouring, but they were very friendly. They really didn't explain fermentation process, the vineyard, etc... but again, they really were very nice, friendly and smiled and gave generous pours. We really loved the chardonnay and bought a couple. But the wines seemed to get worse, so we actually decided to stop the tasting before trying all the reds and sweets. We just chatted with the lady giving us the tasting and noticed others pouring wine from a microwave, which we found very odd. So, upon reading the description of that wine, their spicy red, we just had to give it a try and we were so impressed, we bought a bottle of that too! Never bought a sweet wine before, but this is unique and very interesting.All-in-all, we really want to love this place. It's got the "local family winery" feel to it, but couldn't get past the mud, smell and poorly-maintained facilities. We might come back though, not sure yet. You should definitely give it a try though, as they do have a nice, diverse selection. Their chardonnay is buttery and oaky, which is hard to find. Their tasting fee is only $3, the cheapest we've seen! And their bottles are equally as low-priced.

It's starts off bad in the parking lot, that was a terrible muddy mess, all of it. Then you are lead up on this sloping concrete walkway that was very hard to navigate. That lead us to wooden stairs that were in a very bad state of repair that ended in a landing that was severely sloped to one side, Making it very difficult to get your footing. Once inside, the overwhelming waft of sewage greeted you. The building is very dirty, unfinished and uninviting. The staff were delightful and friendly, but knew very little about the wines. How they manage to make a good Chardonnay , I don't know, but the rest of the wines are not good. In fact, at least two of them smelled like sewage to match the interior smell. Yuck.

Best place to get a buzz and drive around the back roads. Nothing fancy just a family run winery. Try the zin very good.

We didn't know Burnley was out here. Went to Barboursville and discovered it. Loved their wine tasting and variety of taste sensations. Please make sure you visit them!

We loved the fruity sweet wines. A nice treat over the weekend. Typically like dry wine making this a nice departure. It is a farm winery--meaning they grow and make their own wine. Owner is very nice.

We had already been to three wineries prior to arriving to this location; yet, it wasn't very good. You would think after drinking several variations for the past three hours we wouldn't care. Honestly, we cared a lot. The wine tasting fee is five dollars and does not include the glass. They offer seven wines, the time we went, and they are mostly reds. The reds were all pretty dry and hearty, so be prepared. The restroom is up at the house, in front of the winery, and they have a nice patio for sitting outside.

This was a great tasting, and informative. The owners were friendly and attentive. The wines were delicious and affordable.

Kind and personable staff. We had a nice tasting and enjoyed the cabin room we sat in to have wine and relax. Enjoyable overall experience.

The building itself needs a little remodeling. Upon walking up to the building we were a little scared. It is old and in need of a little TLC. When we entered, the inside didn't look much better. However the gentleman was very pleasant and carried on a great conversation with us. The wine was average and we did leave there with 3 bottles for family member's. There wasn't much scenery but overall the experience was nice.

We found this winery by following the signs while riding down rout 20. I was old, and a steep walk upstairs, but was well worth it. The lady that waited on us was very friendly and made us feel welcomed. They had some very tasty wines and we really enjoyed our visit there..

Stopped here on a vacation day with my sister in law. She lives nearby and we planned on stopping two other places. I am not a big wine drinker but enjoy a glass occasionally. First impressions were not great. The handicap parking is behind the building and you park on stone. There's a wheel chair ramp. The door was locked so we had to walk around and hail down a worker to see how to get in. He called to have the door unlocked. We entered through a side room obviously equipped for a group tasting. The place was dark and did have very old linoleum on the floor. The older lady serving us wasn't overly friendly nor did she share much about the wines. The tasting was $3 per person. They do have a decent selection to try. We were not offered any palate cleansers. After going to the next place (Barbersville) we realized Burnley's wines were average and the tasting experience nothing special or memorable. Will we go back? No.

Burnley was one of three wineries we visited near Charlottesville, and it ended up being our favorite. Other reviewers are correct that there is no charm / atmosphere in the building. But the owner (Dawn) who served us was very warm, friendly, and knowledgeable - we really enjoyed our leisurely time talking with her. $3 for tasting 15 or so wines is a great bargain. An even bigger plus was that we loved the wine, and with Burnley's prices being so reasonable, we bought five bottles - which is a lot for us. We left feeling that we'd had one of our most enjoyable wine tastings ever. Give it a try, as long as you go there realizing that you're not going to be wowed by the decor.

After visiting many local vineyards in the area, we expected to find another one to enjoy. We were very disappointed in this one. Not only was the building in poor condition, but the woman who served us during our tasting had very little to say about the wines. None of the wines stood out enough for us to purchase a bottle. When we went out onto the porch to enjoy the weather, we found the area in poor shape; it looked as if it hadn't been updated or really cared for in years. The restroom wasn't even clean. With all of the great wineries in the area, we will not go back to this one.

I'm not much of a drinker, but my husband enjoys wine although he's not an expert and I thought he'd enjoy going to a winery. We did. We tasted about 6 wines altogether and purchased three of them. It was toward the end of the day and we were the only ones there so I felt a bit like I might be putting this guy out, but he was friendly and welcoming! Fun time.

We have visited most of the wineries in Monticello Viticultural Area. Somehow we missed this one so on a whim, I purchased a Livingsocial voucher to visit Burnley. The fact that it is a farm and totally unpretentious was nice. Yes, it is "rustic," but the staff was wonderful. We tasted a lot of wine and the pace was not hurried the way it is at so many places. We were served an assortment of cheeses, homemade chutney and delicious bread which enhanced our tasting experience. Most of the wines were good sipping wines and tasted even better when served with food. Afterwards, our family had a relaxing picnic lunch and enjoyed a bottle of their Riesling. We also brought home several bottles of their other wines to enjoy at home.
