Tucked away in the hills of Virginia, Mt Vale Vineyards is a hidden gem worth the extra effort. My friend and I spent Friday and Saturday night in the elegant yet cosy guest house. This master suit spares no luxury- complete with well stocked refrigerator and kuereg coffee maker. The bedroom boasts a king sized poster bed, while the spacious bathroom is complete with a jacuzzi tub, shower and his and her sinks. The grounds are impeccable, with 360° views of the beautiful hills and mountains. Last but not least the wine. The Reserve (Bourdeaux style blend) and the Cabernet Sauvignon are as good as any I've tried east of the Rocky Mountains. Loel, the owner, is especially proud of his Chardonnay which is a solid white with good color. For those of you who prefer sweeter wines, Mt Vale caters to regional palettes with three lighter offerings including a cranberry infused Chardonnay. All in all it was a great weekend... relaxing and romantic. I'll definitely be back.

Perfect activity on our rainy day! Loved the tasting and location with beautiful vistas. Located just outside downtown Galax, VA.

Very nice scenic location. We liked several of the wines that we sampled during our wine tasting. Only a short drive outside of town.

We recently visited Galax area on an anniversary weekend and stopped by the vineyard for a tasting. Several of the wines offered were very good, we purchased a bottle and sat for awhile on the patio while drinking it. Very scenic views and they even had some live ambient music onsite. Owner was very friendly and chatted with us for awhile. Will definitely return.

The cabin is beautiful and totally private. Beautiful views of the valley. The wine was good, left with a half a case. Noel was wonderful to us. Totally romantic visit for my husband and I. Bed was very comfortable and the muffins were a nice touch. Hiked the mountain for the beautiful views and the wild horses. Highly recommend.

Such GREAT wine! Virginia Silver medal winners. Plus the bread and cheese was such a great compliment to the wine. We had a wonderful time. We drive an older model car and our attire was shorts and tee shirts and we were graciously welcomed at the front door and the customer service was fantastic. Great conversation with the owner, plus a personal tour of the winery and a tasting from the tank. The scenery is gorgeous and the air is so fresh. Loved it and will definitely go back (many times).

Your visit may depend on what type of vehicle you drive and what type of clothes you have on. We've been by several times after work with our uniforms on and haven't seen anyone that offered wine tasting or a kind word. This may be a great hidden gem but who would know? Not us.

My husband and I have visited Galax, Va several times and always make it a point to visit Mt. Vale winery. The first visit we were given a tasting by the owner. He was very gracious and even offered different cheeses to go with our wine. Our second visit we were given a tasting by the wine maker, who was also very nice and knowledgeable. She also gave us suggestions of a few new wineries to try out while we were in the area. The wines are excellent! If you are a wine lover, you must visit this beautiful winery.

My husband and I were heading to Virginia to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary. I thought it would add a little something special to visit a local winery. Mt Vale was perfect! Their tasting room was charming and beautifully built. They have a gazebo with nice tables and chairs to relax and enjoy the stunning view. We enjoyed a tasting with the owner who was welcoming and very friendly. Definitely a must if you are around the Galax area. The trip will not turn out to be disappointing.

My husband and I were recently looking to get out of the hustle and bustle of our very busy lives in DC over Labor Day weekend and happened to find this lovely winery and guest house through the VA Wine App: http://vawineinmypocket.….I called on Monday and was immediately greeted by an awesome southern voice on the other end of the phone. This voice belonged to Mary. Little did I know who I was speaking to......More to follow........We booked the guest house and upon our Friday afternoon arrival we were warmly greeted by Mary Simmons, who is also the Vintner at the winery. She immediately made us feel like a member of the family and not just another house guest. She introduced us to Chris who runs the grounds and day to day maintenance of the operation. We could not have felt more at home but then............We opened the door to the guest house and were blown away by all of the detail and care that was taken in building this lovely get away home. The guest house has a very open feel and provides all of the necessities needed to truly get a way from it all. Their is a coffee maker, wine refrigerator, and the bathroom was simply amazing. The bathroom has lovely Italian marble flooring throughout, jacuzzi tub, and walk-in shower. What more do you need? Oh yes we came for wines and the views of course. The vineyard is stunning and is slightly southern facing on a downward slope. This is a perfect place for weddings and honeymoon. The views from all of the gazebos are so peaceful as you look out over the rolling Appalachian mountains. So after freshening up from our six hour drive we went back up to the tasting room which is just behind the cottage. This is where I met the owner Noel Belcher. He is a true southern gentleman who again made us feel right at home. He gave me a tour of the entire facility and allowed me to taste some of their very special chardonnay that will be bottled next week. This was a real treat. My husband and I truly enjoyed absolutely everything about this destination and their amazing boutique wines. We loved it so much we brought back a case. Our personal favorites are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Table for Two, Misty Morning, and their Cellar Door. They also make a refreshing Cranberry Wine that would be great for family gatherings as the months grow colder. They winery recently participated in the 2013 Virginia Governor's Cup Wine Competition where their Cellar Door and Misty Morning both won silver medals. So if you are looking to get away from it all and truly escape, give Mt. Vale Vineyards a call. I hope that you enjoy your stay as much we did. We are already planning our next trip.In Vino Veritas........

Spent a long weekend in the Galax area, biking the New River Trail, visiting Floyd and local wineries. The guest house was excellent. It was spacious, beautiful, and very comfortable. All necessary needs were accommodated for, and we hope to get back some time.
