A multi-war memorial, not just to the Confederacy but to all uniformed Virginians who have given their lives up to the latest victims of war

This is a very well done memorial, to the armed forces. It is not a monument to war but rather a good explanation of several different war events, WWI, WWII, Korean Conflict, Viet Nam and the Desert Storm, complete with movie that was very well done.

For some, this edifice of remembrance might have a special meaning, and should not be readily discounted in that event. Otherwise it is not a destination to be recommended, as one would Arlington. On the "plus side", there are great river views from there. Go down to Tredegar instead.

Always a place to take anyone from out of town. A very moving experience reading the names of the fallen. There is also a fabulous view of the Richmond downtown skyline.

I wasn't aware of the expanded exhibits at the VA War Memorial. It's an excellent historical recounting of VA's participation in US conflicts and rivals DC for free public venues. It's worth at least a hour's visit.

Very well done. A very nice place to pay tribute to veterans and learn and see military items throughout history

It was WAY more than a listing of Virginians who served in WW2, Korea, Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf. It had beautiful displays following the time line of not only wars, but all important American important dates -- wars, movies, historical events, etc -- down to the invention of Juicy Fruit gum ;-) The docent told us about the videos they had made of veterans talking about their military experiences. I wish I had had the time to view a video made by a veteran who may have had a similar experience to my father-in-law's. The staff here had done a wonderful job of preserving stories that we have missed hearing. There are even great collections of toy soldiers and ship models.

As a non-American tourist, I was greatly impressed by this place. The memorial is profound and beautifully designed. Inside the memorial centre is an exhibition about the different wars the US was involved in, with more specific information on how this affected Virginia. The displays are written from a patriottic perspective, and this greatly helped me in getting a better perspective at American self-understanding.

This is a wonderful place to pause and reflect on the sacrifices Virginians have made in service to the United States. Virginia played prominently in the Revolution, War of 1812, and the Civil War. There are many battlesites and memorials commemorating those events all over Virginia. This memorial is dedicated to the memory of those Virginians who died in World War II and the wars since then. I hope families of those who died are comforted here to know their loved ones are remembered. The memorial is beautiful, awe inspiring and sobering.

Great new addition to Richmond honoring VA veterans. The views of Richmond are beautiful. Worth a walk up the steep hill from the National Civil War Museum on the James.

This memorial is a must see, the memorial itself is beautiful. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. The museum has so much history to offer. The pictures of the current service members we've lost was heartbreaking, as some were coworkers. This is a must see

This memorial sets on a hill with the city as it's background. Seeing the names from each county/city in Virginia that gave their life for my freedom was really amazing. Also, inside the memorial there are great pieces of history regarding all of the wars. Also see the picture of every person from Virginia that has died in Afghanistan & Iraq. A really special place if the military is close to your heart.

This is another of my favorite places in Richmond. The glass and stones have names of Virginia's fallen veterans etched in them, along with the county/city they were from. There is a statue, "Memory," at the south end of the memorial. She shows both the great sorrow and pride for our fallen soldiers. She stands by a reflecting pool and an eternal flame. The view from the monument is also quite beautiful. I suggest pictures at sunrise to get the full beauty of this extrordinary memorial. You'll have a flood of emotions, from enjoying the craftsmanship and beauty, to the sadness of so many wars taking the lives of our family and friends. This is one of three things one should not miss while in the area.
