The museum is just ok but since we saw Confederate President Jefferson Davis' White House next door I gave the attraction a total of 3 stars. If we had seen just the museum then we would have been bored so I would highly recommend that you see both. Our tour guide for the White House was great - he had a lot of funny comments. Also, the museum was a little hard to find because it is literally in the center of the hospital buildings.

My issue is with the lack of info on WHY the war was fought. There is no mention of slavery or Lincoln. We also visited the "White House" and listened to the glory of the racists Davis, Lee and Jackson. This history of the Confederacy was too sympathetic. The book section of the gift store had one small section tucked away with African American stories of the War. Shame on the museum for not taking the time to discuss the ugly truth of the Confederacy.

Comprehensive museum next door to the Confederate White house, good displays and exhibits in both the military and civilian lives in this lost cause.

Wonderful history, the tour of the White House and mansion was very informative ! Gift shop a little pricey, but the museum was well worth every penny !

We visited both the museum and the house. The house is very well maintained and the staff is very knowledgeable. We were told the story of the house, the Davis family, those that worked in the house, and those that visited, it's very interesting to see things that have never left the house, such as the statues in the entrance. The museum is very nice as well, there are plenty of artifacts and information about each of the items. I'm not exactly sure about some of the other reviews saying that there wasn't much in the museum, perhaps they went to the restroom on the right instead of the museum on the left. If you are in Richmond you should really see this.

The Museum of The Confederacy offers a brilliant collection of Confederate artifacts from battle flags to sabers and uniforms. It actually compromises three sites at three nearby locations-the other two being the White House of the Confederacy-home of Jefferson Davis, and Tredegar Iron Works. The first two are almost adjacent and the Iron Works a walk or short ride. Cannot recommend them highly enough-and incredible slice of American History.

Interesting collection of history of the confederacy. Good history lesson to be had with numerous campaign flags and uniforms from the Civil War. Discussion of the elements that lead to the Civil War beyond slavery.

This wonderful museum is being swallowed up by construction around it - it would really be a shame if it were moved as this is a large historical place. Anyone with any interest in both Virginia and US history should make a huge effort to visit this wonderful house. Not only is the house full of history, what remains of the gardens are wonderful. A must see for everyone.

The collection is extensive and very complete. You should take the time to read all the information available in the displays. You will come away smarted about the CSA and their officers. Walk slow, absorb the information.

Again, like the Hollywood Cemetery, if you want to visit anyplace in Richmond that has a connection to the War Between the States, this is one of them.

This is a educational well done museum that has the home of the south president restored. I did not know prior to the visit that there were 2 presidents living in white houses at the same time....Go visit. Great staff and free parking.

Pleasantly surprised by this museum. We thought it gave a fair representation of the Civil War time line and how life was like in the south during the war. Exhibits were clearly marked and most interesting. We loved the docent tour of the Confederate White House and found the guide most knowledgeable.

As others have said, parking can be seriously problematic, but can park in the VCU Medical Center parking garage. Modern building with elevator. Non-Southerner impression: if we keep re-enacting the war, we might win this time! The museum was mainly loosely related collections of stuff which was, at least, authentic. If I had to pay the full entry fee for this and the Confederate White House, I would have not have gone. The free tour if the Virginia State Capitol, nearby, was much more interesting and comprehensive.

The house is historic though most of furniture is not original to Jeff. Davis home. The museum behind the house is exceptional in content of the period in Richmond.Interesting bits --A Davis son fell off the back porch & was fatally injured; Lincoln was photographed sitting in rocker on front porch after the fall of Richmond in 1865.Insight into Davis family and relationships with local population as well as Union military.Nest to MCV Hospital downtown

The museum is small but it has a collection of artfacts used by some of the most important persons of the confederacy. Mos impressive is the camp tent of Gen. Lee. Also the collection of firearms and equipment used during the war. The museum is well kept and well design.
