Lovely place to play. Friendly staff and very accommodating. Very reasonable rates and even if you don't have a tee time, they'll get you on. Beautiful layout and scenic overlooks in the hills. The course needed lots of work though on both the greens and fairways. Ask for an extra sand bottle and help fill in the divots.

Pine Forest is one of my favorite golf courses ever, and without a doubt the most scenic, winding its way through the pines and ravines of Tahitian Village. Although a relatively short course, club selection, accuracy and course management are a MUST here as nearly all the holes have out of bounds on both sides of the fairways. And the green fees are VERY reasonable, and include a cart. This would be a very difficult course to walk, which I don't think is allowed anyway. We are lucky to have four wonderful golf courses in Bastrop, but if you have to choose just one, I would suggest Pine Forest.

What a great course. Staff was very friendly and gave us a "cheat sheet" on how to play the course. The par 3's had great elevation changes, the Cliff hole was interesting, Saw several deer on the course. This is definitely not a course you want to walk, a cart is a necessity. Greens Fee was only $15 with a cart. The restaurant is more of a snack bar than a bar. If I am ever in the area again, I will return.

Played last weekend, I was impressed by how well groomed the greens and fairways are, lots of elevation and challenging small greens, all said easy puts to be made, the par 3's with high elevation change create a beautiful scene and you can impress yourself by hitting long distances with 2 clubs less than usual. Went there because of the reviews and left very satisfied, I play 3 to 4 times a month in the Houston area and really had a good time, for $35 bucks you play a very decent public course and get to see some awesome views of the hill country. Very friendly staff. They have a page called "tips for the course" which guides you around the twisty fairways, you can get it from the starter, nice touch, very helpfull for first timers. Good luck and enjoy.

What a fun course to play. Lots of elevation change. Fairways and greens are the way to play this course. A gem tucked away in the Lost Pines forest. On site driving range and putting green also. Highly recommend visiting this course.

What a great surprise to find this jewel of a course. The layout is superb, and some of the views are breathtaking. Don't know how the architects carved a course out of there canyons. It was a good test for Hubby (a 5 hdcp), and the ladies tees were short enough for me to enjoy. The greens are undulating and you may walk off half of them mumbling something to yourself. They are bermuda and you have to watch the grain...and one little tip: they break toward the river. There were several holes along the Colorado River. Quit scenic, huge elevation changes, thoroughly enjoyable. Good kitchen for a breakfast sandwich. Great deal on GolfNow.

I played here before and was prepared for the poorly maintained greens, uneven tee boxes and overall lack of course maintenance. What I was not prepared for was to be sent out in the back of tournament and then for the yahoos taking reservations to funnel more people out in front of us at the turn. There were 3 groups waiting on each tee box. Horrendous waits, with no sign of starter or course marshal, golf pro, cart girl or anyone with the course. Not sure if there is any leadership at course or if the plan is just for it to run itself. If there is any leadership, I suggest serious self reflection.Good layout with great vistas are being wasted on this "operation."

Hi, This course has great holes with lots of elevation change. Many of the holes require good golf to stay in the fairways. They used to allow walking, but now require cart rental - which is probably a good idea since some of the distances from green to next tee are a ways. Still, even though I'd rather walk, I make this course a destination.

Long, interesting golf course along the Colorado River just south of Bastrop. Lots of hills, narrow fairways and gulleys. Kept in really good condition, worth a stop off of Hwy 71 at Tahitian Drive.

I sponsor tournament each October. This Oct was our 18th year at Pine Forest. Twenty-four to 30 of us drive up from Houston and play four rounds in three days. The staff is very helpful and flexible. Fees are reasonable - 4 rounds with cart, grand total $111.00. Course is challenging, particularly the greens. Some holes are very pretty.

This is a neat course: the topography is varied, very varied! Some holes a essentially flat with a mild dogleg. Others involve shooting across a wilderness valley or a small lake. More interesting that Lost Pines course in Bastrop State Park and a lot cheaper than Wolfdancer at Hyatt Lost Pines.

My husband and I went to play this course after doing research on the internet. Everyone was extremely friendly and we had a great time. The views from several of the holes were absolutely breathtaking. The elevations really played tricks and made for a tough course - we did lose a lot of balls. There are some holes that need to have a little more guidance. We got lost on one hole (one color tee is on one side of a river and the other tees are on the other) and had to drive around a little bit to find where we should tee off. Overall, this is a fun course to play that is challenging but has great views. The only downside was that some of the fairways were closed off even the temperature was over 90degrees. There is no beverage cart, so stock up before you go out.

It is a difficult track, with a lot of variety, up and down, left and right. Some carries can be somewhat long, especially if you do not pick the right tees. Greens are very good, with subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) breaks. Condition is usually good, tending to average if there is a long period of heat and no rain. Many holes with no houses, only trees and brush. A few holes with excellent views across central Texas and others next to the Colorado river. Ammunition: 2-3 balls. A good value for the money and worth a daytrip.

You can play a lot of golf courses in and around Austin. Sure, you'll find courses with better grooming, but you will be hard pressed to find a tougher challenge than the blue yardage at Pine Forest. From the blues, the course plays at just over 6,500 yards with a slope of 132. Not extremely long, but this is a narrow course lined by thick brush and trees. It demands accuracy, especially from the Par 3s. No. 12 is a 180-yard Par 3 with a stunning drop to the green. Very hard to pick an accurate club on that one. Oh, No. 13 plays at 561 yards from the back tees with a drive uphill. Better bring it on that one.Fortunately, the course came through the tragic forest fires earlier this year without substantial damage. I feel terrible for the folks who lost their home on the hilltop along No. 6.

This is one of the courses I happened to stumble upon. I play about twice a week, and was just looking for a track that I had not played yet... Well I made a tee time and spent the $75.00 to fill up my car, and drove to Bastrop. Walked in, "Herb" is the man, very helpful, and polite, paid my $20.00, and was thinking to myself, "this must be a goat track, for only $20.00". I was very pleased with the course, well kept, and nice greens. Don't be fooled by the $20.00 cost, it is very much worth it... I have taken a few of my friends out for a round and they can't believe it...
