Wanted to see some historical buildings in Castroville and thought this would be a great way to do it. The site serves as a B&B, so I was not surprised that those rooms are locked. But after paying the $4 a piece entry fee, I would have thought we could get into the dining hall building or some of the other outer buildings-not so. Everything but the old grist mill are locked up tight. In this Site's defense, it did sound like they were getting ready to do some renovations, but they should tell visitors that all but the main building and grist mill are off limits! Save the entry fee and visit the Alsatian house open to the public for free just down the road!

Midweek, we found this peaceful place the perfect getaway. This 1840's inn is a historic site that opens a few rooms as a B&B. Rooms are close to period - no phone or TV. Our bath was next door. The balcony overlooked a beautiful acreage that drops to the Medina River, with the ruins of a mill beside it. A continental breakfast, self served, was left for us in a pretty historic home on the property. De-stress and go exploring!

Nice museum with historical artifacts. The area towards the river is worth the walk, along with a visit to the mill
