The campsites are close together as in many state parks, however the difference here is that there is no easy access to the water, The sites are above the water considerably and most sites don't even have a water view due to thick vegetation. The lake is beautiful and huge, but you really need a power boat to enjoy it. I have a kayak and couldnt get it down to the water, so that was disappointing to me.

My wife and I spent a day recently at Eisenhower State Park and we quite enjoyed ourselves. We were pulling our Casita, so we stayed in an RV campground, which was quite nice. We had water, electricity and a sewer hookup. The sites were very comfortably spaced and quite pleasant. We had a view of the lake from our site, although that view won't be there in a couple of months when the trees get leaves. We drove through a couple of the campgrounds for tent camping and they were quite nice, with many sites having nice views of the lake.Lake Texoma is the main attraction at the park. There are good boat ramps if you bring a boat. In the summer there is a swimming beach that's small but nice; in mid-February it was deserted. We didn't get out on the water, but we enjoyed the vistas from hiking paths or the shore. Seem to be plenty of day-use opportunities, too — picnic tables overlooking the lake, trails, and lots of fishing. The folks in the office were pleasant and helpful. I wish we'd had more than a day to spend there, but we enjoyed the time we had. I want a state park to be clean, attractive, and peaceful, and Eisenhower fit the bill quite well.

Fishing, camping, boating, hiking Eisenhower has it all. This is one place where the entire family can have fun

This was the first place that we ventured to when we purchased our camper. I was not that impressed with the choice of campsites. None of them, at least when we went had views of the lake, all the sites were overgrown with weeds and brush. We much prefer Lake Ray Roberts, Johnson Unit. Or go across the damn to another camping area.

My husband and I just returned home from our four-day camping trip to Eisenhower State Park. The park was only a 2 hour drive from home, which made it especially appealing to have a long weekend getaway. We selected a full-hookup drive-through site with views of the water through the trees. The sites have a fairly tight curve for our 30' fifth-wheel, which meant having to be extra careful to avoid hitting one of the concrete post positioned to protect the hookups. The picnic table is on a concrete slab, several steps down in a small clearing, along with a fire pit/grill. The electricity was good until the park started filling up on Friday afternoon, and we experienced a drop in voltage, prompting us to turn off the AC after our breaker popped. Our two grandchildren joined us on Friday morning ready for some camping activities. We noticed several trees beginning to show a change in color, watched several types of birds in the park and saw a few deer at dusk. There are several hiking trails of various lengths to conquer...but we waited until Saturday after the temperatures dropped 30 degrees from a cold front, giving us a couple of inches of rain. Our hiking trail took us through the forest, over a footbridge, down a rocky cliff to the shoreline, back up to a tent camping section, before we headed back to our section. We could have hiked longer as the temperatures were in the upper 50s-low 60s, but the grandchildren were ready to head back to build a fire and drink hot cocoa. There's always next time!Even though we practice leave no trace, other campers obviously don't. Our fire pit was filled with water bottles and other trash. I would given the park a higher rating if the cleaning crew did a better job of keeping the campsites and bathrooms cleaner. There's plenty to do in the park, but if you need to get supplies, Denison and Sherman are near by. Interestingly, diesel fuel is .40 cents cheaper than fuel in the DFW area.

Eisenhower state park on lake Texoma is one of the prettiest lakes I have been to . Clear water oak trees walking trails and swim beach makes it a great family get away.

If you are visiting North Texas, President Eisenhower's birthplace is no more than an hour from the Dallas area. The site including the house are managed by the Texas Historical Commission. The ladies on site are beaming with facts and corrections to assumed facts, like Ike was long thought to have been born in nearby Tyler TX, but no! He was born in Denison TX! His presidential library is located in Abilene, Kansas, but what the Texas Historical Commission has down with the site is very nice. We enjoyed the trip back to the late 1800's and World War II.

We had a great time visiting Eisenhower SP but really wish we knew before hand that they don't allow dogs on the beach or in the water. Never been to a state park that didn't allow dogs like that so we didn't like that. But other than that it was a beautiful park with a great lake for fishing and boating. The Eisenhower yacht club is within the park and has rentals available. As it was too hot to camp we will be making a return trip in the near future to check out the campsites. Overall loved it.

I'd been to Lake Texoma before, but not this particular area. I was looking for state park about an hour outside of Dallas with a beach, and Eisenhower fit the bill. We also have been to Lake Ray Roberts Isle du Bois, but wanted somewhere new. I opted for a campsite in the Elm Point area, as most site there give a great view of the water, since most of the park is elevated about the lake. We had a campsite with plenty of room for two small tents and gear. Our neighbors were families, many with barking dogs. There is not much space between campsites, which didn't cause too many problems though one night we were a little loud past quite hours and our nearest neighbor politely asked us to keep it down. I found the staff helpful, especially in the main office, when we checked in. Gathering firewood is not permitted and not much is to be found anyway. There is a trailer of firewood by the entrance with a suggested donation of 50 cents per piece. Much cheaper than firewood at the closest gas station. We loved the beach, though it is a long staircase down, which could affect how much you decide to lug down there. We will though be back for the beach and perhaps to camp again.

The Eisenhower State Park has well maintained hiking trails that any outdoor person will enjoy hiking on. The roads going through the park also provide for a scenic drive. The park is located on Lake Texoma which is a pretty nice lake. I dont't give this park a five out of five because although it is nice, it doesn't do anything exceptional or amazing.

We spent Oct 25-27 (Fri-Sun) at Site #88 in the Bois D'Arc Ridge. Three kids, one black lab and 2 adults in our pop-up camper. It rained most of the weekend.I'd give the bathrooms a C- Mostly clean, no shower curtain/door, a few hooks for hanging supplies. Most people in this area are in large RVs for 5th-wheel campers and we never saw anyone else in the bathroom the whole weekend, so maybe the bathrooms in the tent areas are better (I forgot to look). Our site had a little privacy with trees/brush blocking our site. Nice pull-through site. We wandered around to the other areas. The lake is so low, but they seemed to have put down sand for the swimming beach by Elm Point. A few areas to fish and the public piers were full on Saturday when we stopped by in the afternoon.Had no problems checking in Friday night at 8:30pm and the campground was about 75% full. We never saw a Park Ranger (maybe the rain kept them busy elsewhere) and there were several dogs in our loop (but not many kids).

We took our kids (aged 3 and 5) on their first camping trip to the screened shelters this past weekend. We stayed in Shelter 21, only because we wanted to be close to the bathrooms and the playground (swings only) for the kids. No direct view, but we had a trail right behind the shelter that went all the way down to a great secluded rocky beach. The shelter was about 12x15', had one light bulb and one electrical outlet inside and one outside. Water spigot outside too. Perfect for first-time "campers" like us. We had plenty of room for the kids' cots, our king sized air mattress, and the picnic table (which can be moved outside). The shelter itself was clean, as were the bathrooms (rangers were seen cleaning the bathrooms multiple times all weekend). Very satisfied with our stay, especially when we were covered during the rain. Can't wait to go back!
