I found out about this sporting clays course by way of a Groupon offer. I love not far away in Kingwood and this is a lot closer for shooting shotguns than some of the other facilities around Houston. I took my grandson out for a 100 round per person course. Since it was our first time there a nice young guy named Ty drove our golf cart, pulled the targets for us and even handed us shells as we reloaded. He was very informative about the history of the place and how it was built in what used to be an old oil field in low lying swampland. There are 2 main sporting clays courses, a skeet range and trap ranges and five stand. The sporting clays course we took was the easier one and had 10 stations where each shooter fired 10 shots at report doubles. Some of the shots were very difficult and well planned out. Luckily for August the early morning weather was cooler than usual due to a recent rain storm a few days earlier and there was a lot of shade as well as a big umbrella to stand under at each station. Considering how long it has been since I last shot clays I felt pretty good to shoot 54 out of 100 and I was using a 20 gauge while my grandson used a 12 and shot only a little better at 60! We could use more practice and plan to go back again. It takes about 2 hours to shoot the course if there aren't a lot of other shooters, otherwise you might have to wait for a station to clear just like on a golf course. They sell drinks but we brought a small cooler with water and I think they will rent you a gun if you need it and maybe they even sell ammunition. You can either rent a golf cart of walk the course if you want some exercise.
