The Eugene Clark Library located in Lockhart Texas is the oldest continuous operating library in Texas. The picture you see is the Library that was donated to the city in 1899 by Dr Eugene Clark a local physician. It contains a Lyceum and stage where President Harding once spoke. He spiral staircase located inside going to the second story is unique. The second story is where to local book club meets and the furniture is original. Several years ago, in order to raise money for the library, the librarian went to the top and stayed there day and night until the funds were raised. You can read of her exploits in the book published called, "The Looney Librarian" This is now the adult library with the children's library located next door in another historical building. A must see if you are in Lockhart, "The BBQ Capital of Texas.
