We were instructed to leave a small fee for the day, or there were options for campers as well. There were a couple of nice hiking trails that were well marked and easy to follow, but it had been rainy prior to our visit so a bit muddy.

We found a great spot to beach and drive the boat right up to shore. It was a wonderful July 4th weekend!

Great park close to Lufkin. Unfortunately it is still closed due to the Tornado. Hopefully it will open soon.

Closed for hurrricane repairs last I heard- call before heading out. 4C trail starts here and follows the river- pretty and lots of wildlife

Not sure about Ratliff Lake, but I love to hike and found Kit McConnico Park on the northeast side of the city. Wonderful array of well maintained hiking trails. Several trails to for almost two miles, if you hike the whole system it comes out to 5 miles. One of the days I went out to the park, there were tons of little league games going but I ran into no one on the trails at 6 pm. The next time I went in the morning and there was no one at all out there. Wonderful spot for solitude, maybe not as much on the weekends, not sure. But no need to drive 30 miles away for a day hike when you have a full forest hike in the city.
