I enjoyed my visit and tour during Mardi Gras weekend. The woman took us on a tour and gave us a lot of helpful information about jazz and the pictures. I enjoyed the musicians. I also enjoyed seeing the paintings of the jazz musicians and all the old cameras, records, and players.

I got to see the museum during the Sherman Jazz Fest/Red River Mardi gras. This is a wonderful museum, focusing on the great trumpet greats of all time. Lots of memorabilia, with many of the items previously owned by the musicians themselves. They had a great band playing Dixieland music on the top floor during the Jazz Fest.

I am a lifelong fan of jazz and trumpeter Maynard Ferguson specifically. When Maynard died in 2006, his family chose to donate all of his trumpets, clothes and many other personal effects to the Sherman Jazz Museum. Housed in what appears to be a former old church building, the museum displays on two floors hundreds of jazz albums, musical instruments, pictures and self-running videos of jazz greats including Duke Ellington, Al Hirt, Miles Davis and many, many others. Also displayed are many old electronic keyboards, radios, record players, juke box and other memorabilia. If you are a fan of jazz or have children or grandchildren interested in music, this is a good spot to go. It's one block off the Sherman, TX courthouse square.
