Graduated from Here 50 yrs Ago and attended my nephews graduation this March. Quite emotional. Not the same as the 1960's but still the home of the Worlds Best Air Force. Enjoyed all the ceremonies and hope its still there 50 yrs from now.

I attended my second usaf graduation at lackland this weekend. As usual, it is kind of hard to navigate around base. There wasn't much to do on base except eat and shop at the bx and mini malls. The gate guards were very friendly and helped with directions.

My wife and I traveled to Lackland to attend our son's graduation. The base is pristine, but our GPS navigator had difficulty locating the building we were to be at for the graduation. We finally arrived at the guard post for the area we were supposed to enter, but we were late. Not too late for the graduation, but later than we were supposed to be.One of the men on duty in the guard station told us that we were late for the ceremony and said that we needed a printed invitation to get in, and that we would probably not make it in time since we were this late.My wife went out to the car to get our printed invitation, and I held our place in line. While my wife was out at the car, the man behind the desk explained to me that the building we needed to get to was a bit far, so we would probably not get there in time. He said that we should have gotten there earlier.I explained that we had traveled 1,000 miles to be there.....and my wife intended to be there for the graduation. I have done my job in getting her here, so now it is on you..... I don't want to be in your shoes. The man looked at me, and then picked up the phone and made a call. He verified that my son's name was on the graduation list, and then made some special requests. My wife walked in with our printed invitation, and the man behind the counter glanced at it, and then told us to proceed...and gave us very exact directions to the building we had to find. When we arrived at that building there were staff on hand holding the doors for us and waiting to escort us the hall we had to be in to attend the graduation. We made the graduation in time, and I was invited to go to the stage to pin the wings on my son's uniform. My wife was absolutely thrilled to be there for that. We have a great military......and they are always there for us.....going above and beyond the call of duty.....not only in times of war....but in times of family. Thanks for the great effort! Our greatest thanks and respect to you.Ken

OK I'm giving it 5 stars because of the occasion not really because the base was awesome. LOL! They have 2 BXs, several eateries like Subway, Pizza Hut, etc. I saw some hotels on base like Comfort Inn (not sure of names but something like that). Oh, we ate at Denny's off-base and the manager there made everyone give the graduating servicemen/women a handclap for their service!

The US Air Force takes good care of their people, the gyms, the facilities, etc... Air Force Bases are awesome. Obviously not open for all to attend but if you have an ID Card or are with someone with one you can visit.

Took a chance at getting on base after being told we'd have a sponsor and calling ahead. The airman at the visitors center were very helpful and said they could give us a 3 hr. pass to see the new monument to guard dogs. As it worked out it was on the parade ground loop which also had a wide variety of planes on static display. Planes all had a story on the plane plus several stories from crew members that were on these planes. After a drive around the base looking for my old barracks from 45 years ago we called it a day as the base just like me had changed over the years.

Fast food restaurants, pizzerias, movie theatre, shops, Air Force stores. Had a good time with my graduate there. Follow the map they give you and their rules to not get your graduate in trouble. Everyone there was very respectful and helpful!!

We were here to watch my daughter graduate BMT. Of course everyone is very helpful. Exciting to see all of the trainees marching along everywhere. I am so proud to be an American and was blessed to be able to witness these fine young men and women during there transformation. You do of course have to have a pass to get onto the base when visiting. The base if fairly easy to navigate. Some routes are blocked off at least during graduation times. Be aware of trainees preparing to walk across the streets and wait for them to get across. I am so glad I was able to visit and watch my daughter graduate. Plenty of things to do and places to eat during her base pass. The mini malls have something for everyone.

The parade grounds is surrounded my historical military aircraft. Walking around reading about the history is always a great way to spend an afternoon. And the golf course is one of the best in San Antonio.

Being retired military, I have stayed in Visitor Billets all over the country. I can without a doubt that Lackland AFB has the worst maintained and functioning quarters I have ever stayed. It was like staying in a storage room from the 1960's with mismatched, broken furniture and electrical appliances wired by connecting extension cords. The price was right but the facilities were oh so wrong. We moved out into the civilian community the next day.

The base is really nice. We spent alot of time at the BXs since my elderly parents were with us. There is a bowling alley and movie theater but we didn't visit them. There were plenty of eating places in the BXs.

Retired military attending daughter's graduation. Very organized and informative. Everyone was very polite and answered any and all questions presented.

Lots of historic aircraft on display, friendly people. There is a lot of expansion going on, but it is still a nice place to visit.

This is the second time we have been to this base. It's clean, easy to get around, and all staff were very helpful. We are civilians who enjoyed attending two graduations. So proud of our AIR FORCE and all branches that are on this base.

A very special place. Love the security they have in place. We went for a graduation. Disappointed we didn't get to see the graduating class do the run. Still a great day.
