I'll be honest...I only went in for the shoes. (If you're reading this, you know what shoes I'm talking about.) A Visitor Services Assistant named Josh walked with me to the exhibit and told me the WHOLE story! You HAVE to find Josh and have him tell you the story when you visit, because there is so much more to it than what's on the little placards! Unfortunately, YOU CAN'T TAKE PICTURES OF THE SHOES!!! Y'all. I've documented my WHOLE SUMMER by taking pictures of my crazy stops and putting them on Facebook. So I made Josh take a selfie with me. He's awesome. Then I felt guilty for running in just for the shoes, so I did walk around the rest of the museum and WOW! What a fabulous resource for a town of its size! Seriously, you must check it out the next time you're in Rawlins. And tell Josh I said hey.

Carbon County Museum was one of the first places we visited when we moved to Rawlins to help us learn about our new home. We've learned a lot and our kids love going back as much as time allows. For the kids there is a kids room to explore,a scavenger hunt (parents will love this too!) & in the summers one day a month to do a fun activity! Who knew a free museum could offer so much! The staff is very knowledgeable and if they don't know they will find it for you. Ms. Lauren is very welcoming and my kids think she's a rock star with all that she knows about Carbon County. Learn about Big Nose George, Thomas Edison's visit to Carbon County, life in small western town so many years ago, our State Flag, our railroad history and so much more. Will always be one of our fun things to do in town especially when we get visitors.

A need for petrol took us off the road and into Rawlins. Then we found this museum. A real gem, which was interesting for strangers to the area. An eclectic mix of artefacts both inside and out. Although they related to the local area, they reflected the period. The house sets were well displayed. In the 'shed' area the displays were more mixed and some more labels would have helped. The receptionist was friendly and informative. Well worth a visit

The docents are not very knowledgable. Displays were dirty. Nothing of much interest, unless you want to know about Big Nose George.

We are in Rawlins for an RV rally. Our rallymaster arranged a tour with a knowledgeable guide. Lots of interesting artifacts and they were well labeled. If you can get a tour with a guide, that's the way to go. A self guided tour is OK but a guide really helps. Free admission but they have a donation box. Hours 10 am to 6 pm Tuesday through Saturday. Good for a few hours out of the wind.
