It's a small museum, but good for a quick visit. And worth the small ($4) admission. There are three floors but they are all small.

Do not miss this museum if you are interested in the Old West.Excellent displays of nineteenth-century military and Indianartifacts.The display descriptions are a delight to read.If you are interested in firearms, ask the receptionist if it is possibleto view the collection across the street which is not usually open to the public.

When I arrived, during "open hours", it was all locked up. At another attraction I asked what they knew about the Nelson Museum and they chuckled and said the hours can be erratic. So, I did a couple of other things and then returned, This time it was open.The admission fee is VERY reasonable. For it you get 3 floors of western historic memorabilia. I found it to be pretty interesting stuff -- Indian handicraft, priceless saddles, military uniforms of the time, lots of stuffed animals (done well, even though I don't like the idea of sport hunting), movie posters of old western films, some memorabilia of Roy Rogers, and more.The docent was friendly and helpful, but it's a "wander about as you like" museum...which is what I do like.

Lots to see and do, well worth an hour or two seeing it all. With three stories to discover it's an amazingly varied collection.

What a wonderful place to spend an hour or two. They sort of have their own hours, so be prepared to visit the news stand until they open. Then for a nominal charge, i think $6 you get to tour the museum and take pics too.

We were absolutely amazed at all the memorabilia and antiques displayed in this 3 story museum. Mr. Nelson has dedicated his life to collecting fine examples of Western and American history, some very unique displays. I was dreading another museum for my poor husband, but he was as interested in as many things as I, so we browsed for several hours. The admission fee is very reasonable and I believe the monies are to fund scholarships. The museum was my favorite "thing to do" in Cheyenne.

We knew about the Nelson Museum of the West from our trip preparation on TripAdvisor but what we actually found far exceeded our expectations.The charge is $ 4 per head - it would be worth more just for the experience.The museum covers 3 floors which includes the basement and there is an elevator.The first item that really touched my inner little boy was that all this cowboy and cavalry stuff is real - including the costumes from Roy Rogers and Dale Evans!The cavalry display was amazing - period uniforms, weapons and equipment from the time the cavalry came into the West thru WWII - just fantastic.The weapons displays are awesome - real cowboy guns!Perhaps you can tell I enjoyed this.Do not fail to visit the Nelson Museum of the West - if you do you will regret it.

Wonderful exhibit of the western culture. Cowboy & Indian artifacts-clothing, saddles, pottery, guns and much more. Little known, but worth finding.

Five dollars per person will give you access to three floors of an museum that shows the life of a man you has spent it hunting items from many states and countries. It also shows off many other items such as Indian clothing. It doesn't seem like much but it shows a great deal

This is a small but well-run museum - clearly the result of years of passionate collecting by an individual. We thought it was a little heavy on the historic military uniforms and guns of all kinds [but others might absolutely love that aspect], and we were also not very interested in the stuffed animal trophies from outside the American West. However, that being said, there are many interesting displays. Don't skip the third floor or lower level!

this museum has a fantastic collection of western artifacts and taxidermy it might be small but it is packed with interesting items and info it's an extremely well run placeeven if you're just passing through you have to stop in it's worth it

This museum displays several artifacts from the old west. There is a huge variety from guns, clothing saddles, hunting trips, art, law enforcement, military and others subjects. I really enjoyed the Native American Pottery and the collection of some of the smallest guns in the west. There is a cell phone audio tour available. Well worth a visit.
