Take a simulated walk on Mars and see space exhibits that span exploration...

Of the several museums we have visited which are dedicated to space exploration, this it the best one we have seen. It has many static displays outside, including a portion/explanation of a high-speed test track maintained at nearby Holloman Air Force Base, and inside a wide, WIDE range of exhibits which will interest all age groups. There's even an actual Sputnik from Russia. Adjacent to the museum is an IMAX theater with a fine selection of interesting films, featuring such things as views in space from the Hubble telescope, tornado chasers, underwater cave exploration, etc. Well worth the time and admission price.

The location and building are interesting, also very old. Was not impressed and only mildly entertained by exhibits. Sort of boring to me. Also-was disappointed that the space shuttle Challenger was not mentioned anywhere, nor Christa McAuliff--the teacher who lost her life when the darn thing blew up--isn't that part of space history???? Museum is not up to date and lacking. A couple of cool things--standing on a vibrating floor to simulate the feel of a rocket launch, and simulation of shuttle landing. The rest is simply reading info on the wall, scale models, and some real equipment. Cost is only $6 per. It was an okay outing for a rainy, snowy morning with nothing else to do.

$9 to get in to the museum, only a little extra to include the IMAX. Incredible display, and collection of historic items. There are a few hands on interactive pieces as well. Safe to say I will definitely be coming back.

The museum itself was really well laid out. Each floor of the museum all had something interesting to see or do. For kids, there was a place to try on costumes and pretend to be an astronaut. My husband enjoyed the simulation landing a space shuttle, but I crashed it repeatedly. You should catch the IMAX theater as well, it has a really neat curved ceiling and was extremely cool! Outside there were different shuttles and space equipment to look at. We enjoyed the whisper dish, where you were 30 or more meters away from each other and could still hear a friend whisper to you. Pretty neat! We went through the museum pretty quick and it took us about 1 1/2 hours. The IMAX was around 40 minutes.

For a quick trip this is not bad. Nice displays, but very small. For a quick stop for the family or anyone, this is ok. Gift shop is nice, there is a movie theatre on property also that you can catch a movie at if it's open.

Very interesting overview of the history of space flight and exploration. Models, videos, photos. Even a Mercury Capsule to climb into. Perfect for boomers who watched all the early flights.

We spent the better part of the morning there. The interactive displays are fun! Even thought no one was able to land the space shuttle. They do a great job of describing the roles of rockets and missiles in the space program. And the change to wear a space suit was a great hit!

Four floors of space related items, you start with an elevator up and ramps to walk your way down, interactive demonstrations, one was a simulator of the shuttle on final approach that you can fly. Great views of the surround areas. Free parking. Imax theater in the next parking lot that you get a discount on if you buy both tickets together.

If you are in the area, you really should stop in and see the International Space Hall of Fame. It's a cool side-trip, very informative, lots of neat displays and actual rockets. We did not do IMAX, we stopped here while we went to White Sands, glad we did.

The International Space Museum was not overly crowded. Based on other reviews we chose not to buy the IMAX tickets. The self-guided tour starts out on the fourth floor. The first thing that we noticed was that the elevator was lined with photo panels that made it look like a cockpit. The doors made "Star Trek" like noises when they opened and closed as well as when the elevator ascended and descended. From there we wound our way down looking at pictures, models, and artifacts. We all took a turn at the shuttle simulator and we all crashed it (I think it was rigged). I think that it is worth mentioning that they are doing some renovations and one floor didn't have anything in it. Nevertheless there was plenty to see and do. We were pleasantly surprised by what we found on the second floor. They have space suit costumes that kids and adults can put on then take pictures in front of a lunar background.

This museum is nestled close to the mountains overlooking Whitesands National Monument. It has numerous exhibits that take you through the timeline of space exploration. It has simulators and exhibits of actual spacesuits, spacecraft and moonrocks. It looks like it is always expanding and is worth a return trip to see the new information. While we were there we had an opportunity to gaze at the sun through local astrologist telescopes with filters on the lenses. It was amazing. Put this on your list of things to see when traveling to southern New Mexico.

Cool place to see not only the history of rockets and space but how New Mexico and Alamogordo played in that history. Self guided toe starts outside then fourth floor and makes its way down. I landed the space shuttle and didn't crash!!

This was a great walk down memory lane. Seeing the early Nasa space projects and an Apollo space capsule up close was wonderful. The engines and rockets were so big ! I remember the Sputnik back when it was orbiting the earth and to see the project on display there was memorable. It was very informative and interactive. We lost track of time.

We took our kids to this museum and they all had fun. Very helpful staff and the kids learned a lot. We plan to take my parents the next time they are in town.

Located at the Space Museum. Profound displays of heroic men and women who spent their entire lives in the pursuit of space excellence.
