This little museum is an absolute treasure. Every bit of space and wall in the two rooms are utilized with detailed description and source. Cross sections of petrified wood as wide as 6 ft and incredible variety from many different locations. Entire walls covered with beautifully polished sections. In addition some world class fossils such as a bed of trilobites each over a foot in length. I would say it is a don't miss exhibit if you are in las cruces and worthy of a special trip if you are interested in paleontology or petrified forests.

We have been to many museums with petrified wood and crystals. This is the best collection we have every seen. There were many larger pieces, which we don't ever see. The presentation was very professionally laid out also.

The Zuhl Museum is a hidden jewel. It is largest collection of petrified wood we have ever seen. It is a life time collection by the Zuhl family. Admission is free. What a wonderful for this family to share these treasures.

This is a small museum located in the Alumni and Visitors Center at New Mexico State University. I walked all around campus looking for it and it's not easy to find but well worth the effort. This small museum features a large collection of petrified wood, fossils and minerals. Beautiful geodes! All this viewing pleasure for free.There are more specimens at the Zuhl Library a short walk away. Recommend checking out the campus while you are at the museum.

Any time we can visit a university and a mineral collection, we always find. A very small museum, but concentrated with amazing and rare examples of petrified wood from the US. Also some interesting fossils and local minerals/gems.Not as big as U of Arizona, but well worth a look.Our teen boys enjoyed exploring

The Zuhl is one of the first places I visited in Las Cruces. The family donated a very large collection, mostly of petrified wood. It was so interesting for me to see so much of it came from Oregon, which was my previous resident state. There are many very interesting and very beautiful items in the collection. Well worth a visit.

This place is a little hard to find because of road construction all around it,but it is a great place to go.There are several displays of fossils and the most awesome displays of petrified wood you will ever see.As well as the coolest mineral displays. If you think this sounds too nerdy for you,you really NEED to go see it yourself.

This is a relatiively smalll museum that will provide an enormous amount of pleasure. The exhibits consisting of stones, petrified wood, and fossiils are absolutely beautiful. This is well worth your time and you will not forget what you see. Go!

Alumni and Visitors Center at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces features the Zuhl Collection Gallery of more than 1,000 academically important specimens of petrified wood, fossils, rocks and minerals, dating as far back as 4.5 billion years ago. Displays include fossil remains of extinct animals and plants, dinosaur bones and tracks of ancient amphibians, as well as one of the largest pieces of petrified wood ever cut and polished to highlight the mineral content.
