thomas edison museum

We were in this afternoon and had a great time. Chuck was a brilliant docent with loads of good stories and a really entertaining delivery. The museum is small but the staff make It feel huge (if that makes sense) with their enthusiasm and knowledge.

Again it is...... i have say the same words used in the Edison tower review because both are near by ..in the same area... adjacent spots... no one is here without prior appointment.. no fee for see this but the asked donations $5 ..? it is not easy to run ..? what i already said.. funding is the problem .. still the tower work is not finished so far .. so this museum is not also equipped well .. near by Edison lived house site ... also without any land marks ... but school children are the only visitor ...

I have alway been a fan of inventors and broad minded individuals, but I was unaware of the intensive care and support Edison had for his inventions and warehouse. Great self guided tour and the phonograph presentation was beyond awesome. Great place for people who want to learn.

We went with my brother and his wife, and had a wonderful time. What a education. You don't realize how important Thomas Edison was to American inventions, until you see everything he did. It is old, but his inventions are 100 years old. You are on the grounds were he invented many of his things like the building were the first movies ever made. It is just a amazing sight. You have to be into this type of thing wanting to learn about the past, and how technology has come around. We than went to his home, which is just lovely with all the original furniture and china etc. that was used by Edison. It was a great experience and if you have children or grandchildren that like science, or technology, they will love this. I think it would be lost on a young child, who might get bored very fast. But we loved the place and spent the whole day walking the little that is left of the plant, and the grounds and house.

We had to take a sub, train, bus to get there, but it was well worth it. My husband wanted to go to this and take a day out of our New York adventure. Just the trip was a lot of fun waiting on the street for the bus as the snow flurries came. The museum itself is very rustic and had a lot of old inventions. Had some of the first movies ever made that you were able to personally watch through a device, had a room full of horns used to make the sound on the old record players, some interactive things there. It was very interesting for us, however, my daughter's attention was lost after awhile. It would be great if some millionaire would donate some money to this museum and make it more interactive for the kids, using his original ideas, and inventions. It is a great place and I hate to see it not be apart of future generations as a source of inspiration. There is so much technology that could be added to inspire the young and old alike. Would recommend to all. From there we went to a great little place to eat that is right up the hill. Waitresses and owners that have those great Jersey accents and the food was to die for. It was a deli or coffee house I can't remember the name, but it was great. One of the park reps pointed us to it. The whole trip was great with finishing it off with that great meal and conversation with the waitress. Loved it

A great place to take the kids to learn about Thomas Edison and his many inventions. Easy to get to, right off rt 27

First off, its small. If you plan to go here, plan to have other things to do as well. This is not the kind of place that will eat up several hours. Its relatively unknown so that would explain the fact that it is fairly rundown looking. You could drive right past it and not even bat an eye.If you're a fan of history, Thomas Edison, or local history than it's an interesting place and worth a visit. There is a nature trail in the back that isnt very long and an easy stroll. There are wooden stands that are supposed to display information on them but when I went most of them were missing and/or destroyed. It's one of those places you check out once and basically forget about.

For anyone cusious about the real Thomas Edison - this is a good place to visit. Parking is free and available.

Plenty of our nations history in our back yard. I've been to the museum several times and always enjoy the experience. I enjoy taking my nieces and nephews and going with my friends children. Always a great time watching their faces in awe of how technology began.

We spent several hours here before our flight home to the UK. It was really interesting, well run and very good value, we could have spent longer there. Would recommend if you are staying in NY or, like us, had a day before an evening flight home.

After decades of overlooking the signs on Route 280 I finally took the time to visit the Edison Museum. I admit that I'm a nerd but I don't know who wouldn't enjoy a visit here. There's Edison's offices, labs, library and the Black Mariah (a recreation of it.) If you don't know, that's where the first Edison motion pictures were filmed. When I visited they did a demonstration of recording an acapella group onto a wax disc just as they did more than a century ago.You can also visit Edison's home which is not too far away. I missed that part.This area is loaded with historical sites and museums. I think the Edison Museum is among the best. Like an exhibit at the Smithsonian!

Thomas Edison began his research here and during a visit, a docent will tell you Edison's History, let you hear the first song played on his phonograph and numerous other inventions this brilliant man whose mother had to home-teach him created - because his elementary school teachers thought he was dumb. Walk around the small park and look up at the tower with a giant-sized light bulb that has been glowing each night for decades.
