I've wanted to see Lucy for a long time. As in stop and take pictures as opposed to just seeing her from the car. Such a great stop. They have a great little gift shop and she has a beautiful view of the ocean.

What's not to like? Lucy as a structure is very cool. Can see the ocean from inside out of her eyes. The history is interesting and Margate is a great beach town. Beautiful beaches and great restaurants. Worth the trip.

Lucy was pretty cool. The day we visited it was windy and very cold so we didn't stay long..but cool!

So...Okay. We are talking about a 50' elephant. At first it seems silly, but when you see her you will be hooked. She isn't JUST a huge elephant, she is a relic of the past. Some real estate tycoon over 100 years ago built her to attract attention. The town she is in is called Margate which also house the infamous "Marvin Gardens" from the game Monopoly. Marvin Gardens is this awesome flash back to the 50's in Hollywood. A lot of big butt houses built close together. But when you are driving along and finally see Lucy, she takes your breath away for a minute. She reminds you of being a kid and being in awe of something you had never seen before and even though you couldn't ride her, sleep in her, or spend any significant amount of time inside her, you feel special because you are inclusive in a group of people that have "met" her and appreciate her spirit in still being around after all of these years. She is awesome. Don't go there expecting some big theatrical WOW...cause it isn't there. Go there ready to be surprised by this awesome creation in the middle of a chilled out town that has chose to preserve what they were lucky enough to inherit. It is a must see in my book. While you can gaze upon Lucy's beauty from the ground, I recommend going inside the gift shop and buying a tour for a few bucks which actually goes to preserving Lucy and her beauty. It is a well worth expense and helps keep Lucy painted and preserved.

Although it has been quite awhile since my last visit to Lucy The Margate Elephant , it has always in my mind been a must see for those who like historic sites and thing of exploration to do. The ride from Atlantic City is a short one but well worth the effort, certainly if you want to get away from the casino for a bit. A great destination for families with youngsters. I am not certain of all the facts about Lucy as it has been awhile but once there the tour will certainly be enlightening and hold the interest of all who visit. I do believe that the landmark was damaged due to that awful hurricane Sandy but has since recovered and I thank god for that as this is certainly a "must save" landmark, Lucy was a very memorable site during my childhood and I also visited many times as a parent and adult. All with the same interest and outcome fulfilling the need for adventure and a great educational stop for my children as well. I highly recommend a visit to this amazing man made attraction down at the Jersey shore.

I lived in South Jersey for 32 years and must have past by Lucy the Elephant 1000's of times. Myself or family never stopped by for the tour but during a recent visit we figured we would do so for my 11 year old daughter. What a great experience. The tour is not very long (maybe 20 minutes), but you are told educated on the history of Lucy and the people that make her who she is today. Please stop by and take the tour. Your admission is your donation. $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for children under 13. In the summer there is a hot dog stand located at the beach and you can visit the restaurant located just across the street all year round. A true South Jersey/Margate icon.

When I saw Lucy the Margate Elephant again I was so excited. I hadn't seen her in over 40 years and it brought back all my joyfuul memories of childhood at Atlantic city Steel Pier and getting to go and see Lucy. I am so happy to say that she is being well taken care of after some years that her fate was in question. Go and see her you, create a memory for yourself!

What a delightful little visit the weekend of the Miss America Pageant; Lucy the Elephant was one of the floats in the Miss A Parade the afternoon before the pageant, so we had to visit! A mere 6 mile drive south of AC, we easily found Lucy and enjoyed the visit. The volunteers in the Gift Shop were delightful, happy to share anecdotes about Lucy, and the actual little "tour" was enlightening, answering some of the questions we had about the history of this Local Icon. We gladly paid the nominal fee for the tour.Would *definitely* recommend a visit--to see the Largest Elephant in the World and take in the history of Lucy was absolutely delightful!

where else in the world can you walk thru an elephant?? So much history, and what an interesting (and long) life this place has had! Help save Lucy and take half an hour to step back in time. I remember going as a small child and the sensation was still the same today!

A trip to the Atlantic City area ould not be complete without a visit to see Lucy , the Margate Elephant. .It is a short trip from AC or Ocean City. NJ and has free 1hr parking to see this attraction. A small fee, which goes to the maintenance of the elephant is charged to go inside on a guided tour of LucyOnly as a caveat, there are a couple of sets of steps along a spiral staircase, Up Lucy's leg, so if you cannot do stairs it might not be a great idea to go inside but a couple of picnic tables and a snack bar and a day trip can be made.

I spent a few of my younger years in Margate, which then was not Margate City, but just Margate. We lived near Harding Ave and as a very young child in a safe little town, my Mother sent me to the beach to play (or get me out of her hair). I walked by myself and played mostly beneath the right foot of the elephant, which at that time was going to ruin. There was nothing nearby, that I can remember except some beach grass and of course, a very, then and still lovely now, white sandy beach. Unlike today, houses near the beach were few. There was an entrance at that time near the rear of Lucy, and someone took me up inside once. All I remember was a large room, looking very abandoned and dusty.. Of course, thats a childhood memory, so long ago I don't know who that person was. My Father at that time was serving in the Korean War and he came home to Margate. Soon, we left for Long Island, where I have spent most of my life, with a few years living elsewhere in between. That hotel was moved a few blocks years ago, and I don't know where the original location was, but its new spot more in the middle of town is great. Last year my oldest son and I paid a visit and although I had told him how big it was, he was still astonished. Its really an attraction and I'm thankful that the local townspeople got themselves together and saved Lucy. What a shame it would have been if it had gone the way of other landmarks in New Jersey that went to ruin.

Lucy is a popular landmark in Margate, NJ. She is also a loveable elephant who comes complete with an interesting past and history. You can tour Lucy, watch the video that explains her conception to the present and stop by her gift shop. She is solely funded by those who are involve with "Save Lucy" with help from tourist who stop by. I will add that she has 'hung around the Jersey shore' since 1881. Worth the stop!!

Went to see Lucy , not knowing to expect . Found a very, very big loveable Elephant , the largest in the world ,they say.The children loved her & the adults found a very interesting historic story on one mans marketing idea that was ahead of its time. There was no charge to see her up close & take pictures, visit the gift shop & read the literature about her. You could pay a fee ($8.00 adults , children less) to take a very informative guided tour that included going inside her and climbing the stairs up to the very top observation look out . By the time every one is ready to leave you all have fallen in love with" LUCY", the 110+year old elephant . WORTH THE VISIT !!! P.S. I'll bet you'll leave with a tee or sweat shirt .
