Just an FYI. The TripAdvisor map shows Warren BUT this actual location Warren County is more West, closer to PA. I live in the Warren area and wondered "where could this be and I haven't been there?".

Mount Tammany was a beautiful hike! It truly felt rewarding once you reached the top! I have wanted to do this hike for a long time and once I finally got to do it I hope to do it many more times in my lifetime! The hike can be a little strenuous if you are not in shape it is steep and climbing over lots of rock! Bring lots of water and lunch and hang out at the top :)

Mount Tammany (red to blue to green loop) was an awesome hike - only 3.5 miles, but the rock climb is grueling. We did the hike in the late morning in December, and the 45 F weather was perfect. We only saw four other people on the trail so we had a chance to take in the views and scenery. I definitely plan on coming back to Worthington to do some of the longer hikes.

The hike to the top of Mt. Tammany is one of the most popular in New Jersey for good reason; the view from the top of the Delaware Water Gap and Mt. Minsi on the other side is amazing while the hike itself takes one thought a well wooded forest with many rhododendron, the opportunity to spot ample wildlife including deer, soaring raptors and even the possibility of a black bear, with a portion following along the picturesque Dunnfield Creek with several small waterfalls. The trailhead is accessed from the parking lot at the Dunnfield Creek Natural Area which is located on the north side of I80, just east of the last exit in New Jersey before crossing the Delaware River into Pennsylvania. While it is always a good idea to start a strenuous hike early, it is especially appropriate in this case as the parking lot is often full and closed off by noon on weekends, holidays and nice days in the summer and autumn due to the popularity of this area. There are two trails to the viewpoint near the summit of Mt. Tammany, the Red Dot and Blue Dot trails. The Red Dot trailhead is accessed from near the entrance of the parking area and takes one up 1250 ft (381m) in 1.5 mi (2.4k) while the Blue Dot trail, which takes one up the 1250 ft (381m) in 2.5 mi (4.1k), is accessed about 0.5 mi (0.8k) down the Appalachian Trail which passes through the area along the back of the parking lot. The best way to take in all the sights the area and trails have to offer is to hike a 4.0 mi (6.5k) loop consisting of the Red Dot trail up Mt. Tammany followed by the Blue Dot down to the Appalachian trail (white blazes) and taking it, along Dunnfield Creek, back to the parking lot. While the Rangers at the nearby Delaware Water Gap NRA visitor center often recommend taking the Blue Dot trail up, which seems reasonable at first as it is not as steep, I find that it is better to take one’s time up the steeper Red Dot trail and then down the less steep Blue Dot trail down as it is much easier on the knees and more safely navigated as ones downward momentum over the rocky and potentially slippery terrain is much easier to control. While this hike is strenuous, it is very rewarding and highly recommended.
