It is a small, but gorgeous lake with a wonderful public beach that costs nothing to park! The lunch stand has food/drinks at exceptionally low prices. There are islands on the lake with lovely, small, sweet blueberries. Far end has lots of Lilly pads.

Peaceful lake setting, tucked away from highways and high volume traffic. We enjoyed a gorgeous morning kayaking (rent from Pelletier's in Jaffrey, they'll deliver the kayaks right to the beach) and went down the stream at the end of the lake for about a mile or so. Blue herons, geese, turtles!

Small size and average fishing- one end is very shallow and full of the usual water plants although there is a very narrow center channel that is marked for motorized boats, but we were in kayaks and still struck bottom a few times!

The Lake is about 1.5 miles long and is beautifully clean and in August was pleasantly warm. There were a few boats on the lake off and on but for the two days we were there it was quiet and peaceful. There was a private beach at the Inn where we stayed right on the lake and it was the best part of the two days we were there.

The first couple times i went to contoocook lake i had a blast. but these days it seem like just another crowded lake. and a nickname that should sum it up, some people call it scumshine. because its dirty and used to be called sunshine lake.

Peaceful place....there are car races on it when it's frozen, great bass fishing when it's not
