We chose the low impact paintball party for our son's 12th birthday. We had 8 kids and the price was $35 each for 2 hours of paintball, a total of $280.We were issued a team "commander" which was an employee from MN Pro Paintball to lead our group. He didn't seem overly excited to be leading a group of boys but still did a good job...my husband and I agreed that someone with a little more enthusiasm would have been nice. The boys were given paintball guns and masks. The birthday child received an upgraded gun. The facility has multiple courses to play on, and they played 2 games on a course before moving to a different one. Each time we switched courses we had to walk back to the main building first. This seemed to waste a lot of valuable playing time. :(The paintballs wouldn't always explode on impact, but the kids didn't seem to care...they were having a blast! They played team elimination and capture the flag. About halfway through our session clouds started to roll in. Our commander thought that we could finish off our reservation before the storm arrived, so we kept playing despite seeing lightning off in the distance. We walked across the property and started on a new course. My husband and I were tracking the lightning/thunder to see how close the storm was getting. We felt pretty concerned since the lightning looked close. It went from 15, to 11, to 7 during the time of the kids' game (approx 15 minutes time). We asked the commander at what point was it considered dangerous to be out in the lightning? He told us that under 10 seconds between the lightning and thunder, and we told him that the last one was at 7. At that point the lightning flashed right above us and he agreed that it was getting too close and that we should head back. We returned to the main building and made it under shelter just as a heavy downpour came down. The time was 7:30. We figured that since we were missing out on 1/2 an hour of our 2 hour total that we should have our total charge discounted by 25%. This is not what was offered to us. We were told that the best he could do was to discount us by the amount of paintballs we would have otherwise used in the last half hour, a total discount of $15. This didn't make sense to us, since we are being charged by the hour...shouldn't the discount be by the hour? On the MN Pro Paintball website it states that the ammo is unlimited, so why did it matter how many we would have otherwise used? We were then told that we could have kept playing...while it's a heavy downpour and lightning all around us. We told him that we were totally fine playing in the rain, but that we were not willing to risk our safety and the safety of other people's children by being out when there was lightning present. He had the audacity to say that it was not lightning ON THE PROPERTY and that we would have been fine. So we need to actually have lightning land in front of our feet in order to get a discount due to lightning outside? On their website it states "We will not run games if lightning is present and or if our Park is under a Tornado Warning." I guess they need to change that to "We will not run games if lightning is present within our property lines." The guy ringing us up was not willing to budge, so we just told him to charge us what he thought was fair, which was his original offer of $15 off our $280 bill. After he asked us if we wanted to tip our commander, which we did, he then decided to discount our bill down to $234. While that was appreciated, we did not have a pleasant experience with the billing/cashier and felt like we should have been discounted the 25% not only 17%. When you have to cancel a round of golf due to weather, you are given credit or a raincheck for the holes that you didn't get to play. I don't feel as though we were out of line in expecting the same from MN Pro Paintball. We loved the courses and the kids had a lot of fun at the party...I'm not sure that justifies the negative experience we had as parents - unfortunately for MN Pro Paintball it's the parents who pay the bill and I'm not sure we will be returning here in the future. We will be contacting someone from MN Pro Paintball and will update this review with the results.Would rate a 5 for the actual service provided.
