steel toe brewing

With the influx of new craft brewery tap-rooms in Minnesota it's a pleasure to find one that is really committed to the beer! Jason and his staff take pride in what they produce and have been known to throw out an entire batch of beer if it was potentially off. This leads to a consistency that I have not found at many of the local breweries.Each beer has its own profile, as it should. Each is distinct and to be enjoyed as a pint. I say this because beer is meant to drunk over a period of time. As you work your way down the glass and the beer warms slightly you should be able to discern the different subtleties in the way the yeast, malt, and hops come together. This is evident in every beer available at Steel Toe.Want something lighter? Go for the Provider. Enjoy a midwest style IPA? Get the Size 7. If you're here during different times of the year you will be able to try the seasonal brews they have to offer. Summer gives us Size 4, an incredibly drinkable, full flavored session IPA with low alcohol content as well as the Sommer Vice, a nice take on a Bavarian Style Hefe-Weizen.As with most tap-rooms in the Twin Cities, look at the calendar on the webpage to see what food truck will be there on Fridays and Saturdays. Or ask Chelsea behind the bar about what area restaurants deliver. Hard to go wrong with great beer and a friendly crowd of regulars.

Stopped here during a recent trip to Minneapolis. Beer was OK - nothing bad but nothing great either. Split a sampler with a friend and moved on.

Which is to say, the beer is fantastic. The facility? Well it's gray, small and structurally sound. I really enjoyed my time here, though... the staff are great and the clientele committed. It's kind of like that old joke: "Did you ever hear about that brewpub on the moon? Great beer, no atmosphere." If you like crafted beer, get over here and enjoy some. They have a nice sampler plate that lets you try all six (today, anyway) varieties. I went for a pint of Dissent stout and have no regrets.

Great beer and a nice staff. Worth the trip if you are in the area. Size 7 IPA is a great beer. Always busy and lots of bikers ride there for a brew :)
