After looking at the Lighthouse itself, and not being able to use some trails, we drove down to the Trail Center and hiked from there. Only reason I did not rate excellent is so people realize not everything is open yet. It is still worth the trip however. We were here earlier this year for the candlelight hike (awesome!!) and it is so interesting to see the changes over the seasons. A stop at the Park Office completed our trip - very friendly staff there.

We made this a quick trip since it was -15, but it was simply beautiful! We opted for a short hike to the shore where you can see the light house in the distance. So pretty in the winter!

We love history combined with geocaching so we totally loved visiting this area on our 45th wedding anniversary! The fall colours were just starting to appear at the end of Sept. We'd love to come back to the area.

I had reservations about stopping here, because frankly we are NOT big history buffs, and our two young boys even less so. But we had a WONDERFUL stay, really one of our favorite camping experiences on the North Shore. We opted for a backpacking site which was right on the lake shore and our kids spent hours and hours just climbing around on the rocks, very beautiful, very secluded! Long hike in, but worth it. We also enjoyed pebble beach and were even lucky enough to be visiting during the narrow window of time when it's possible to explore the tiny adjacent island (warning, though, you cross on foot and the water was breathtakingly frigid, even in the height of summer. Take caution if you cross with young kids!!!!!!!) The lighthouse was not a great value for us, but it was fun to explore and I guess it didn't bother us to drop a few dollars in the interest of preservation.

Informational, interesting and beautiful. We stopped here for a short time on the first day of our 15 day road trip. Even though this is a mere 3 hours from our home, it was one of our favorite stops on our 4,000+ mile road trip.

This park is far too commercial for a state park, and the cost of going out to the light house itself is far too high. I'll take a pass the next time I'm up that way.

We got here very early on a Wednesday in late October & we had the place all to ourselves. We couldn't go up into the lighthouse when we were there but it was still fun to see. It's worth the extra little walk down to the beach to see it from afar too & see the "split rock" it sits on.It was either $5 or $10 to enter the park but once you pay at one park your permit works at all state parks that day.

The trails are along the shoreline and into the woods. They take you passed the campsites so you can decide which one you would like for next summer! The hike up "Day Hill" was poorly marked but a good quick climb for a fantastic view over the state park and Lake Superior.

The tour was a combo guide and then self guided. The guided tour provided historical information. The self guided tour provided the photo opportunities. Take in the theater show too. It added to the experience. Also, I would recommend the walk down to the lake great photo locations.

This is a great lighthouse. The view over Lake Superior is awesome. There are trails along the north shore that afford unbelievable views of the light. .

The best part of the park is actually the series of lakeside and bluff trails that lead south, which afford you great views back of the lighthouse perched on the cliff's edge.

The view is spectacular. The lighthouse is full of history; it's easy to imagine what it must have been like living and working there. The walk down to the shore is a must!

The lighthouse area was interesting, as well as being able to walk around the rocky shore. Kids enjoyed stacking rocks.

This is a beautiful park with beautiful views of Lake Superior and Split Rock Light. We were just traveling through so we didn't have much time to spend. We have it on the list to return and spend more time.

Tour well worth the money. Free movie inside center that told history and was wonderful. Grounds just beautiful and views incredible.
