I came here to hike the trails of this state park. The hiking club trail followed the beach up to Zippel Bay. The views were so amazing. The beach is a rock hunters dream filled with lots of stones on a narrow band along the beach that goes for miles. This park is on the edge of the lake of the woods and the furthest north I have ever been in Minnesota. The lake is really an inland sea filled with over 14,000 islands. It is quite beautiful and stunning. So very well worth the trip. Very few people here on Labor day weekend when we were here. I could have spent all weekend here it was so amazing. I can't wait to come back and spend more time here.

the water is usually pretty cold, but it is very shallow, great place for young children, never too crowded, fun place to have a pick nick

We try to go there once a year. It's great for giving freedom to kids to explore. You can see your kids all along the beach because it curves. Nice way to experience Lake of the Woods if you don't have a boat.
