The artistic beauty of this engineering feat is just one of the attractions of this landmark. It's history is so rich, from the time of inception to groundbreaking to completion and then upgrades. As you come over the hill on I35, your eyes are drawn to the Lift Bridge in your lower left frame of view. You can't go to Duluth and not go look at this bridge whether it's shining in the bright sunlight or illuminated by it's floodlights.

The lift bridge is an incredible mechanical wonder. It is awesome to see the bridge function to make was for the large Lakers and Salt water ships. It is a wonder when you see the massive ships passing through the canal only yards from them. It is not uncommon to see the crew members out on deck waiving to the sightseers watching from the canal. There is a marine museum by grandmother sports garden and a lighthouse on both sides of the slip to walk through. It is a must for families with kids and there is no cost. Yes, no cost. To maximize the trip I would highly recommend going to www.duluthboats.com/ for shipping schedules. have fun and make one of those lifetime memories for the kids!

Everytime I'm in duluth I make a point to drive across the bridge. The bridge is definitely something about sitting and watching all the large ore ships passing under it really makes for a site. I remember growing up remembering that spot and always wanting to go back. I definitely recommend going to see it.

This bridge is a part of Duluths History. Its a must see for any visitor. Being a area native we are just used to seeing it, but up close you forget how magnificent this master piece really is !

It's an impressive piece of work, not as romantic as the Eiffel Tower, but worth getting close to if you're in the neighborhood.

I lived in Superior, Wi. For over 40 yrs. before moving away. Lake Superior, the St. Louis river, and the Superior Bay were my fishing holes. We used the Duluth entry weekly in the summer and it was always a great experience to travel through and have the bridge raised for you after making the proper signal and getting the aknowledgement. This type of engineering is becoming a lost art in this country and should be a must see for people that remember when things were built to last not merely to skim profits from. The nearby Canal Park is a really nice place to spend time in on a warm day.

I'm a geek for big boats and big water. Watching a 1002 ft boat come through the canal is always a treat. Great museum by the bridge- take 10 minutes or 3 hours. Great place to people watch- love to see kids chase the seagulls and throw rocks in the lake. Lot's or restaurants, very nice board walk, and sight seeing like the aquarium, depot with train rides, and boat trips around the harbor and into the lake.

Something about watching ships go through the piers is simply awesome. Stay in the hotel next door, and you can hear the bridge going up. Then run down, and watch the ships go through. Neat.

The aerial lift bridge is part of the fabric of what Duluth is, a port city so far inland and so unique, and this lift bridge defines this aspect so well for the town of Duluth. It never ceases to hold my interest and if a boat is passing thru when I am there so much the better. The nautical museum right beside, I think, run by the Corps of Engineers is more than informative and when there, I still read all the captions and continue to learn about the maritime history of Duluth.A more than a must visit when in Duluth.!

Was in the area for a bus trip and we walked down by the aerial lift bridge. It was neat just to see it but no ships were going through at the time and it wasn't raising or lowing. Would like to see the ships come in sometime. It was full of ice chunks in the canal where the ships come in. It is worth a look just to see it.

The aerial lift bridge is very interesting to see operate. I decided to get pictures of the bridge at sunrise and sunset. Got lucky and a ship came in during both times, it was facinating to watch the ships even in the cold weather.

If every city in the US had their signature attraction/landmark, Duluth's would be the Aerial Lift Bridge. I had seen it in magazines and books but never in person and it's impressive. I'm surprised how well it still works considering how many times it has gone up and down to let the massive freighters pass through. Every time a ship blasts its horn the bridge sounds one back kind of neat!!

We actually walked over the lift bridge last weekend. The port is closed for the season and there was ice floating in the passageway. It was pretty cool. I've driven over that bridge many times. It's fun to see it up close.

Nice park, where you can sit and relax and watch the big and little boats coming in and out of the canal. Very cool to watch the bridge go up and down. You can walk out to the lighthouse and watch them come and out. Kids loved it too.
