About once a year I get the pleasure of spending a few days in Algona, an a big part of the fun are my hours at the Perky Parrot.This coffee shop by day and hipster bar by night focusses on a quality experience in all they do.I encourage visitors to spend a little time inspecting the quality of the decor. The fixtures, the furnishings, the artwork, is all of an unexpected sophistication. It's really a treat. During the day you can count on a good espresso drink, baked good or high quality sandwich. The flavors are excellent, the choices wide, and the service very personable. Come back after the sun goes down and ready yourself for an entirely different experience. On our last visit we were surrounded by a well-dressed crowd of 30-somethings on a night out, all enjoying custom cocktails and imaginative small plates. My companion ordered a high-end bourbon, neat, and it was an unusual enough of a request to attract the attention of, and comment from the bartender. So, for us it's always the Perky Parrot by day... the Pickled Parrot by night. Give it a whirl, you'll find nothing else like it in Algona or for 300 miles in any direction.
