We were told that the North Grand Mall (NGM) is the best place for a chance at shopping whilst in Ames, Iowa, and so hit the place we did, the day after our arrival into Larch at ISU.The buses were very frequent and took us right next to the mall outside JC Penney's, which was really great. We knew that the mall was small and had around 50 shops to its name but upon entering the place, we were struck by how spacious the place was despite the dated feel to it. We walked from one end, i.e. IC Penney right down to the other, i.e. TJ Maxx. Somewhere in the middle was Victoria Secret, which was a pleasant surprise as I didn't think that NGM would have VS. Upon getting out of TJ, we walked further onwards and found Gap.If you are still not tired after doing your rounds at NGM, you can walk back to JC Penney's end, cross the road and go over to Walmart.I would say that NGM is a pleasant place for an afternoon of limited retail therapy and some family bonding time. They could do with an upgrade and bring in more brand names to liven the place up.

This is an old mall and desperately needs updates. There are young peoples stores, an over crowded Younkers and a J C Pennys that is doing its darndest to improve. The Addition of Kohls and TJ Maxx has greatly improved it, but it has a long way to go.

There is a playground spot for children near JC Penny. Also a few food stalls near Victoria Secret. There is a cinema as well. And ATM machines. A bonus point, TJ Max and Kohl are nearby.

This mall is really nothing spectacular. If you are in the area and need to go shopping I suppose you could go here, or to Walmart, but Des Moines has much better malls and are not that far away.

I spent many hours at this mall. My husband assumed I gained employment in the mall the amount of time I spent in every store. This was my first time in Ames IA and I would visit again.

I am 3 hours from Ames, but when I go there, I visit the mall. I love their stores and now they will have a Kohls. I do miss the Hot Topic for my teenagers. My favorite stores are Penneys, Younkers, Bath and Body Works, Maurices and the pretzel place. Also they have a Halloween store at that time of year. Fun place to go.
