Wonderful displays throughout two levels plus a tractor addition featuring Hart Parr, Oliver and White Farm tractors which were manufactured in Charles City. Fantastic Drug Store, a must see, recreation of Legal Drug store originally located on Main Street. Period rooms depicting five 1900 era period rooms also a school room, doctor, dentist offices and more including fantastic details (for example, a cat looking at a fly above it, a young boy and his little brother in a high chair eating a cookie). Don't forget to see the 1850's log cabin with wagon and old implements near the cabin. We found the staff very friendly, knowledgable and especially helpful with research.

We stopped on a whim because of the tractors (which you can touch and sit on), but then realized there was so much more to see! Two floors, multiple rooms, and a wide variety of historical items ranging from an iron lung to a log cabin! We had four teenagers with us, and they all found something to look at, read about or handle. The general store/apothecary was filled with hundreds if not thousands of items ranging from an 1890's prescription record book to an optical machine you can try out on yourself! There are also rooms displaying a barber shop, dentists office, women's fashions, a school room......This is a hidden Gem and we were so glad we stopped. On a strictly tractor note, If you happen to be an Oliver or Hart-Parr enthusiast this place is for you! The museum store sells donated original items related to Oliver tractor history. My husband and son found items they had never seen before, they were like kids in a candy store! One reason we all loved this museum so much is because almost everything can be handled instead of just looking at it over a rail.Check them out on Facebook too!

This museum tells the story of this Northeast Iowa area from pioneers and Indians to the birthplace of the tractor. Children's activities are hands-on through Saturday Kids' Days. The staff is very helpful when patrons are doing historical research. Don't just visit once--you'll want to return again and again, year after year.

There's an extensive collection of old Hart-Parr and Oliver tractors, so this museum is probably well known to tractor fans. There's also a really large exhibit formed from the interior of an old drug store, with counters going on for probably 100 feet on both sides, displaying a huge variety of old stock, including a lot of offbeat stuff--that was worth the visit alone. There's also an old lab from a firm that made veterinary drugs. Plus the usual bits and pieces of quirky miscellaneous old stuff, from arrowheads to corn planters, that you tend to find in small-town museums. Don't be misled by the picture--the building is actually a solid 1930's former factory with a modern addition that houses most of the tractors.
