old city hall gallery

After many years of visiting family and friends in the area it was suggested that we visit this gallery that was unkown to us. Rose Fantzen's art is outstanding and it is a gem of a gallery for this small community.

It was an unexpected pleasure to discover this gallery in the small city of Maquoketa, IA. The gallery is owned and operated by Rose Frantzen and her parents. Rose Frantzen is nationally recognized artist who is most noted for her "Faces of Maquoketa" installation. We were lucky enough to receive a tour from her father who is responsible for making frames for the art his daughter creates. His woodworking skills are art in themselves. The gallery has a wide variety of art, mostly paintings. All are thought provoking, interesting and meaningful. The tour ends with a video of the steps involved in creating the "Faces of Maquoketa" exhibit. There are no regular hours, but do make the effort to gain access to the gallery. You won't be disappointed.
