This is one of the prettiest and serene stretches of moving water that I've ever floated. Contrary to rapids (which there are none), temporarily beaching your boat on a shallow bar is the greatest inconvenience you might encounter. Also, renting a canoe comes with the need to balance your craft.Having floated this section of Henry's Fork River a dozen times with different family members, I always recommend that we begin the float in the morning at least before noon. This is based strictly on the weather, which can include some strong afternoon upstream winds that require boaters to literally have to work hard at paddling down stream. This of course is an inconvenience advisory. The other reason is that I've been with a couple of boating parties that didn't launch until early/mid afternoon. These two floats were memorable from the heavy lightning storms and rain that can come through quite quickly. So pay attention to the weather coming from the south/southwest. Finally, have a dry box that contains rain and wind protection should someone get wet and chilled. Most likely, you'll have a nice hot day to play in the water.

Wonderful trip down the river in a canoe. Highly recommend water shoes as we had to get in the river to push it off. Quiet and incredible scenery. Easy float for the inexperienced.

If you enjoy easy going activities you will love canoeing down the Henry's Fork. They drive you and your water craft up the river and then you float down about 2 hours to Mack's Inn. We saw a bald eagle perched in a tree and a moose with her baby right in the river. The paddling is very simple and quite enjoyable. There were hardly any other on the water that day so was really peaceful and enjoyable.

Just get a canoe and do it, floating down the Snake river is one of the best experiences of my life: easy going, sweet, and also little bit sportive.Floating down we saw mooses(!!), birds and fishes: it is almost like a private tour through the magic nature. It is not overcrowded, and you get this "special" feeling.still, beware: they open at 10, and the later you come, the less chances are that you will get your boat/float. That "early" in the morning, there is only a gas station open. However, one can have a decent breakfast there (trail mix nuts highly recommended). After 11, there is also an ice-cream shop and a small snack-bar open. In the evening, there is a fairly good Mexican restaurant just across.Snake river is slow and EXTREMELY cold. These are the only worries that one may have.Canoeing: also safe for absolute beginners

This could be a fun family activity but if you rent a raft, they don't tell you that you only get 3 paddles. It was windy and with only 3 paddles, was really hard to move the boat against the wind. If everyone had a paddle it would have been much easier. We then came upon a family who had mostly little kids and so had to help them since they only had 2 paddles! With the amount of business they do, they can afford to buy more paddles. The river and scenery are beautiful but with shallow water and wind, it wasn't as fun as it could have been if they weren't so cheap on the paddles. They told me they weren't allowed to give more than 3 paddles per raft. But that was when we got to the put in, not when I was paying for the rental. Be advised and be prepared.

Don't forget to bring your fishing gear because there are tons on fish. An easy in and out with a speedy shuttle service to boot. Kayaking is fun but there are no rapids so try not to pick a windy day. The water is also ice cold. Float takes about 3.5 hours if you don't paddle much.

It was a lot of fun cramming 10 of us on a boat to float part of the Henry's fork of the snake. It's shallow in places where some of the group had to wade the chilly water. It was a memorable family experience.

This was a fun experience - at first. The water was shallow in many spots and we had to get out to push the boat out of the pebbles. It was a beautiful view down the river, however, we had to rwo against the wind and so we didn't have time to just enjoy the beauty of the mountains and surroundings. We wanted to just float a bit but with the wind we had to keep rowing so we didn't end up getting out in the very cold water to push. We had a little trouble finding the place that was right on the Hwy 20 in front of us. Someone told us it was off the the Hwy so we were looking for a turn. It was fun but work. Be prepared for rain too. After our purchase they told us it can storm at any given time but it usually blows over in 30 min or so. It took us about 3 hours to float down, so make sure you use the restroom before drifting off.

we made sure to get there in morning when they opened at 9am as its first come first service for boat rentals. Was just 3 of us but we got bigger flat bottom metal boat to give us extra room for cooler etc. staff was friendly and explained what to do on drive up. It was so peaceful floating along and water so clear to see fish, we came around corner and moose was eating in bushes, that was neat sight! this was nice mild float trip for a novice like myself and ill defiantly do it again.

We rented a paddle boat for a little birthday fun and weren't disappointed. The current is very strong here at Henry's Fork of the Snake river so you had to paddle pretty fast and hard to make any headway but the float back was very fun. Should have gotten a canoe or other vessel and taken the 2-4 mile trip (these are their most popular offerings) down from Big Springs but who knew paddle boating would be so hard!!! We will definitely do one of the other options next time but for under $10 for the paddle boat for an hour - we had a blast!! Staff members were very nice and helpful. Try to avoid the weekend crowds for optimal enjoyment at Mack's Inn!

Rented a flat bottom boat to float Henry's Fork of the Snake River. Very friendly & helpful staff. Reasonably priced. Saw the clearest water, huge fish, beautiful wildflowers everywhere, moose and even a bald eagle. The most peaceful 3 hours of relaxation we' ve had in a long time.

We have 3 kids ages 14, 12 and 9 - we were visiting Yellowstone and looking for something active to do on a hot day. We packed our lunch and stopped at Mack's Inn to rent 2 canoes. They were very accommodating - the drop off point was a very short drive and the float down the river was relaxing and enjoyable - we even saw 2 moose in the river. Rentals were first come first serve - so don't miss out. We had a great time!

We traveled to Yellowstone last summer and I have to say this float trip was WAY better than Yellow Stone. A bus drops you off at the river with your canoe and you go at your own pace... you can fish, swim we even saw moose drinking out of the river.. The staff is extremly nice and polite... We talk about this float trip all the time it was the best.. If you love water and nature you must do this!
