My first trip to Sun Valley and I was surprised to find how expansive the mountain is. Unfortunately he snow conditions weren't fantastic but the grooming crew had done an excellent job of keeping the trails in good condition. Due to the low snow level I want unable to go off trail much though it looked it would be fantastic with snow. The lift systems pretty fast. The green runs are not really 'green' so probably not suitable for 1st timers. Friendly staff and a nice place to ski.

Good lifts, very little waiting time for the lifts. This is not a huge resort but good enough for a few days. The groomed runs were all safe. Not much snow this season but the place is well looked after. Some of the green runs should really be marked blue.

This is an excellent intermediate and advanced mountain. The facilities were great and the mountain was immaculately groomed. This mountain is not for beginners.

Bald Mountain is what out west skiing is all about. A variety of terrain and a lot of sun! The Lodge, rentals, food are all terrific. No crowds with plenty of skiing and vertical. Parking is free and skier drop off is a breeze.

Dear Gypsygirl831,Thank you for your recent posting about Bald Mountain. We are sorry that you consider the skiing best for ‘strong beginners’.Bald Mountain, known as ’Baldy’ to frequent visitors and locals, is considered as one of the premier ski destinations in the world. With 3400 vertical feel of fall line skiing top to bottom, and virtually no crowds, Baldy allows more skiing in a day than many other areas can provide in a week. Sun Valley is consistently ranked among the top ski resorts in North America. This season, SKI Magazine readers ranked us as #3, ahead of such notable resorts as Vail, Beaver Creek, Park City, Jackson Hole and many more. Men’s Journal wrote that Sun Valley is one of the great ‘Where to Ski Now’ resorts. Matador Network recently published an article about Sun Valley titled ’33 Things You’ll Never Hear Someone Say in Sun Valley’. Freeskier Magazine in the October 2014 issue wrote ‘Destination: The Revival of a True Original for Sun Valley, Idaho’. Even publishing stalwarts like Sunset Magazine enthuse about Sun Valley, Baldy and the surrounding area.In addition the the consistent accolades that Sun Valley receives, we are excited for the future. Originally constructed as America's first destination ski resort, Sun Valley Resort is in the process of enhancing the Sun Valley Lodge. The project will refurbish guest rooms as well as update the lobby, restaurant and other guest amenities. The renovation project will be completed June 2015. The lobby will be renovated to provide space for more gathering and visiting while enjoying the views of the terrace, ice skating and the ski mountain. For nearly 80 years the Sun Valley Lodge has been recognized as an icon of architecture, hospitality, comfort and entertainment. It has been a place where movie stars, athletes, dignitaries and other celebrities come together with kids, families, locals and visitors of all walks of life throughout the world to enjoy the beauty and recreation that Sun Valley has to offer. Again, we are truly sorry that you were disappointed during you stay. If you need any assistance or have more direct comments, please contact me at 208-622-2077.Sincerely,Mike Fitzpatrick

The beauty of skiing Baldy is that one rarely encounters any significant lift lines - sometimes no lift lines at all! So the skiing never stops! The runs are extensive and there is a wide variety of terrain from groomers to moguls to trees and on and on. Because true beginners are almost all learning to ski on neighboring Dollar Mountain, Baldy tends to have accomplished skiers enjoying the slopes. The Lodges both at the two bases and on top and mid-mountain (The Roundhouse) - are large, beautiful and the food is good. You cannot go wrong skiing on Baldy!

Loved taking the gondola and chair to the top of Mt. Baldy during the summertime and seeing the Sawtooth Mountains and breathing the amazing air at 9200 ft. elevation! Hiked around and watched the mountain bikers head down the hill, argh! Came back down to the Roundhouse for lunch, which was nice until the power went out and we had to wait quite a while to get back down the mountain. All was fine though and fun! Would recommend.

Hike River Run toward lookout. Start early because of the afternoon storms. It is 3.5 to the gondola. It is a grunt but worth it. Great lunch at the roundhouse then gondola down. Great way to get a work out, enjoy the views and not kill your knees coming down.

Great trails, but it can get really hot and tough if you have dogs (no water). Lots of bikers too...so it can get crowded. People were friendly though.

I lived in Sun valley for the better part of a year and spent plenty of time on Bald Mountain. IN the Winter it was skiing and in the Summer it was hiking and biking. The views are beautiful. A must visit.

Great grooming & state of the art snow making, sunny skies, high speed chairs, a view that can't be beat and very nice & helpful employees. What more could you ask for except maybe better deals for college students.

The green runs here would be blue anywhere else. Fair amount of cat tracks. Very nice lodges. Helpful staff.

As my grandfather used to say, "You can't plan the weather." However, Bald Mountain management has a plan for when the snow just doesn't fall. A great number of slopes were open because of their snow making machines. We chose Sun Valley because of the high percentage of green and blue slopes. It did not disappoint - plenty of skiable acreage!

It's been another dry year in Idaho and thus there is very little natural snow at Bald Mountain. The machine-made snow was a little too crusty and over-groomed. For such sky high lift ticket prices, we were hoping for slightly better groomed snow conditions. Also, if you ski down to the lift on the back side of the mountain and want to take a shuttle around to the front, you have to ride a city bus and it takes 20-30 minutes to make a 5 min trip. It would be nice if they had shuttles within the resort.
