Battery Park is a pleasant place to go for a walk. There's a lot of green space there and a playground, even a little (artificial looking) hill that gets occasional use sledding. A one-way path damaged by a storm reopened about a year ago, heading southwest from Battery Park into the marsh. There's even a little beach (not surprisingly, since it's on a river, it is totally outclassed by the real beaches two hours' drive south). History buffs may wish to spend a minute at the ticket booth for the New Castle and Frenchtown Railroad, one of the country's first railroads. Battery Park is perhaps best enjoyed at sunset on a crisp fall day or when watching shipping on the way to Philadelphia cruising through ice flows on the Delaware River in winter. Sadly, the view is marred by high tension electric wires crossing the river, Delaware City's refineries, and the Salem/Hope Creek nuclear power plant across the river in NJ.

It's a nice place to visit, it's peaceful and calming with a lot of restaurants and activities in the area and have been back there many times over the years

You can go down there at anytime and enjoy yourself.. In the warm weather, you can walk and talk to each other without all the noise. Very quite and the river always has boats of all kinds to check out. A great place to enjoy yourself or even by yourself.

I have lived here most of my life. I grew up riding my bike to the park and playing in the park with my friends. The view of the river and the boats is awesome on any given day. The people are friendly as are their pets! My husband and I walk for exercise and just time together all of the time. There is a walking path that goes way down along the river for walking, biking and jogging. There are many restaurants and historical buildings to visit. There are also various events including Art on the Green in the warmer months!Come for a visit. You will be glad you did!

Great, safe park for walking/running along the Delaware River. Playground equipment for the children. Lots of trees and shaded areas with benches.

I had to drop someone off a few miles from BP and had a few hours to kill. I decided to try this place out since I heard the birding was good. Although the piers foundation is all that is left standing, it was still a pretty cool view. The park is small, but has a nice open feel. Walking along the river pathway, I spotted all sorts of great birds. Best of all, the town of New Castle is an incredible piece of history. Totally worth adding into the BP visit.

Beautiful park to walk around and enjoy. In the summer, like to sit and watch the boats on the river.

This city park’s early use was as an artillery fortification to protect the city from attacks by enemy ships venturing up the Delaware River.Today, it is a peaceful park with scenic panoramic views of the Delaware Memorial Bridge, Pennsville Township, NJ, and New Jersey's shoreline. It has a paved trail for walking, running, jogging, and mountain or street bicycling. Other activities include picnicking, catch-and-release fishing, and wildlife watching. There is also a small sandy beach and a playground. The park is dog-friendly. During my visit, I enjoyed a stroll in part of the park and the riverfront area where I took a few photos. I found Battery Park to be a very relaxing place. I found a gal running and a guy relaxing at a picnic table overlooking the river. The Separation Day celebration, commemorating the political independence of Delaware from Pennsylvania, is held annually here in mid-June. There are other events during other months. It looks like a good place for an outdoor summer concert series. Most of this park is wheelchair accessible. If you found this review helpful, kindly click YES below.

Walking paths and benches overlooking the Delaware River. Paths are marked for distance if you'd like to keep track of how far you walked, ran, rode your bycycle ot skated. Large playground for the kids. Abundance of trees, many different species. A really nice place to visit at all times of the year. There are picnic tables available if you'd like to take a lunch. A place to calm your nerves and relieve some of your stress. Well maintained.

I've been wanting to visit this area for awhile and got the chance with my 4 year old granddaughter. We had a grand time...watching boats, having a leaf fight and at the play area with the swings and slides. She was able to grab some pine cones and other items for show and tell. It was a fun day in a lovely location.

If you like to stroll along the river, you will enjoy Battery Park. Nice views, very peaceful. Nice way to spend an hour or so on a warm afternoon. Just a couple of minute walk from the center of Old New Castle.

There are so many parks in Delaware, but one of my favorite is Battery Park. Despite the erosion along the river and the pier being blown away by Hurricane Sandy, the park is still gorgeous. Crews have worked tirelessly to fix erosion issues, to maintain the playground area, and to make sure visitors have adequate seating, sun room, and sand space. There is a long path that has just been repaved that follows the beautifully scenic waterfront of the Delaware River. There is a sailing club. There are a couple sandy areas that folks fish at and kids play in the sand. (It is STRONGLY suggested not to eat anything you catch or to swim in the Delaware River. It may even be prohibited.)There are tennis courts, there is a children's playground with lots of equipment. There are benches and tables. There is a lookout that overlooks the Delaware River. There are concerts every now and then. Biking, walking, running, and the like are all great options on your visit. We've never had a problem with mean dogs, mean kids, or mean people. We love this park!

I enjoy the view of the water while walking this trail. It can be so very peaceful. It was hard hit by Hurricane Sandy, but when I walked today, it has been restored and better than before Sandy.
