Our first visit to Delaware and we stayed up state, before we headed back to the Midwest our family insisted we take the couple hour drive out of the way and drive down to Rehoboth beach for an afternoon visit before our drive home! We absolutely loved our visit! We will be back for a longer stay! So worth driving over 3 hours round trip out of our way!! Sun, sand, waves crashing, beautiful shores, absolutely perfect!

Yes it's commercial, it's ocean front property, how could it not be but it's not as relentless as it's neighbor to the south, Ocean City, Md. The narrow sloping beach ( unreconstructed in a natural state rather than sculpted by teams of bulldozers) makes the experience more enjoyable rather than the vast lots o'beach down in Ocean City with similar shops as the MD resort.

Rehoboth has a terrific beach, even in the winter. I am not a beach person so I prefer the beach during the off-season. It was the first really nice day in a while so there were lots of people on the beach. Children were playing in both the sand and the snow. The beach is beautiful when there is some snow on it. It is a great just to take a walk along the beach any time of the year.

We vacation with our family annually in Ocean City, MD and Fenwick Island, DE. If all works out we always try to add on a second vacation week for just ourselves in Rehoboth Beach, DE. We just love it here!Beach: The beach at Rehoboth Beach is quite different than at OCMD. While OCMD has very wide beaches, Rehoboth's beach is narrower and usually steeper. This means that people are closer together here. We like that. It's fun to talk to your neighbors and have a little togetherness. The surf is usually just a little rougher here than OCMD. I think that might have to do with the steeper drop? It makes for better wave sounds at night, that's for sure.Town: This is why we really love Rehoboth over OCMD. Everything is more compact and more interesting and more tasty! Since downtown is right there, steps from the beach, that means that if I get too much sun and my girlfriend is still enjoying the beach, I can easily take an hour or two to wander the shops and cool down, but be right back to her in minutes. It's very convenient, especially if you stay downtown, within walking distance of the beach. You can then easily park your car and be done with it for the entire week. Well, you'll need a visit to the outlet mall eventually, but still. The shops here are very nice and interesting. They offer so much more than just Sunseekers and Candy Kitchen (although, if you must have them, both of those are here). There are handmade jewelry stores, upscale boutiques, art galleries, a lovely independent bookstore, handcrafted coffee shops, gourmet restaurants, small scale candy stores and just about anything else you could ask for from a week at the beach. The outlet mall on Route 1 is my favorite in all of the land. The nightlife in the area covers it all! The boardwalk offers several arcades and an amusement park. There's a Hooters here for the straight boys (really, all day long at the beach wasn't enough???) and plenty of places for the not straight boys too! There are so many nice restaurants here that we haven't even been to half of them in the twelve years we've been visiting. And ice cream.... it's everywhere! The gay thing: Yes, this is known in gay circles as a friendly place to vacation. It's kind of a left over notion from the bad old days when we couldn't be ourselves just anywhere. Thankfully, it's a different world now, but the gay old tradition of vacationing at Rehoboth Beach still holds a place in some hearts. If this makes you nervous, it shouldn't. If you're worried about exposing your babies to us, it shouldn't. I'll ignore the things I want to say and focus on what I think a conservative, straight couple with young children might be worried about. I promise you that the straight people WAAAAY outnumber us gays here. You probably wouldn't even notice us until about day three or so and even then it would just be "hmmm, there seem to be a few more gay guys here than normal." There are "gay places" and "gay beaches" where we go to be really over the top gay (that's supposed to be funny). Unless you wander into one of those places (and you'd be very welcomed there), you're not really going to notice much. If you're not so conservative, take the opportunity of being in Rehoboth Beach to go to a drag show! They're really good here! The lay of the land: If you're staying downtown, you're set! You can truly park once and be done for the week. This is what we do. If you're staying out on Route 1, it can be trickier but there are lots of options. There is public transportation available. Parking downtown can be rough, especially for an all day stay. Just be sure to do a little research in advance and you'll be fine.I really hope you visit Rehoboth Beach sometime in your life. I think it really feels like a classic, even old fashioned beach vacation. If you're there in early August, wave to me. I'll be on the beach, at the edge of the water, just North of Rehoboth Ave! C'mon down, hon!

Our favorite go to beach! Very clean and family oriented. Love all the quaint shops and restaurants. The mornings are beautiful as well as the evenings. We go summer, fall and spring

great beer and good burgers and pizzas--always crowded during the season--locals love this place in the off season

Great beach! We really appreciated that this is a no smoking beach as we have been to some before where it seems like you're walking on as many cigarette butts as grains of sand but this was not like that. Admittedly, we went in winter, but there were no crowds to contend with. The place was simply ideal for a quick Valentine's Day getaway.

It was a great beach. The sand was clean and water was nice, big waves too. Crowd was pleasant. Overall, a great beach. I would definitely visit again!

Rehoboth beach is the place to be in spring, summer, fall and even winter. The beach is super, outlets abound for shopping and the boardwalk is super as is the main street Rehoboth Avenue. The town is also accepting of diversity--all are welcome. Camp Rehoboth offers LGBT visitors a hearty welcome as well as all others.

I had a wonderful experience at the beach, but it gets very crowded. The beach has beautiful white sand and area attractions, but you have to get there early (10-11am) for a nice spot or you will end up in the back (50 yards from the water). If you visit Rehoboth, I recommend waking up early and checking out the sunrise.

Rehoboth Beach, especially during the off-season, is great. Plenty of space to walk around without bumping into people, dog-friendly, pleasant views, clean, and relaxing. Parking is easier too. I like it here during peak season as it is but off-season is even better. Boardwalk is super for a wonderful walk with the dog. Lovely.

Visiting Rehoboth Beach in the off season is my favorite time of year. Less crowds, easy to drive around, no wait for seating in restaurants and shop owners have time to chat.

My wife and I come in from California to visit my Mom a couple of times a year.We love going out to Rehoboth Beach. The Beach is beautiful. You can enjoy long walks on beautiful sandy beaches. There are hundreds of small shops filled with everything you can think of. The people are very friendly. Lots of great food. You will not be disappointed.

We went on Dec 1, on a beautiful day (over 70 degrees F), with three over-eighty family members. Some of us walked on the beach and some of us walked on the boardwalk -- there was something for everyone. We got food and beverages and ate outside. It was a lovely day and not crowded. I would definitely go back.
