While in Memphis we were looking for some things to do outside of the downtown area. The suburb or Arlington is home to this old general store. Founded in 1893, it is the second-oldest continuously operating business in the county. In addition to the old general store exhibits on the mezzanine (including aged caskets in the attic!), there are antique booths and craft displays on the main level. A wonderful farmers market was there on Saturday we visited, and the Tennessee Antiquities Association opened the restored Blacksmith Shop for live demonstrations by a local smithy. There is also a garden center, and several other businesses around the square, including a quilt shop and great BBQ place called Vinegar Jim's. That Saturday evening a free bluegrass concert was being held on the square as well. Arlington has done a wonderful job with Depot Square. Great place to meet, shop and enjoy the great feel of community and history.
