We took a Saturday drive from Huntsville, Alabama, about 45 minutes away to do some photography, and I was quite impressed when I arrived to see this truly remarkable working mill in such a serene setting. Being a professional photographer I'm always looking for scenic locations and this is one that didn't disappoint, even in the winter time. We took a short tour of the inside of the mill and paid the $4.00 fee which was worth it, and was greeted by a wonderful, friendly lady who showed us the operation of the mill and explained the history of the mill. You can still purchase grits, cornmeal, and flour there if you wish so that's pretty neat. I couldn't wait to get outside though to photograph the mill, waterwheel, and falls. This is such a wonderful place, and so peaceful. There is also a Bed & Breakfast for those of you who are interested in staying so that is yet another option. Keep in mind, the property is closed on Wednesday and Sunday so plan your visit around those days. While in the area, there are also distilleries not far away so make it a day trip.

Falls Mill has a log cabin that was constructed around 1890. It is available for rent as a Bed & Breakfast. It is a wonderful cabin with heat and air, a full kitchen and a fireplace complete with wood. Downstairs is the kitchen, dining area, living area with cable TV and movies. Upstairs is the bedroom and bathroom. We had one of the best weekends ever. Everything you need is included. The cabin is cleaner than any motel room that I have stayed in. This cabin is booked well in advance and reservations are required. If you are looking for a relaxing and comfortable weekend in the country, this is the place. The main attraction is a working grist mill with a 32 foot waterwheel.

I am an artistic photographer and this is one of my favorite places in the south to visit. I have been coming to Falls Mills for the past 8 years taking my mother often on her birthday. This is one exceptional place to visit. Plan on taking a picnic with you and enjoy a visit next to the stream. The fall season is beautiful. The mill was actually a cotton textile mill that is now used as a grist mill. You can purchase fresh corn mill (bring a cooler) and trust me it is so good. The corn meal needs to be refrigerated so please bring a cooler. There are no refreshments for purchase so make sure you bring along a few bottles of water. It cost less than $5 for a visit. The older structure at the entrance is the actual grist mill that stands. Great photo opportunity.

We went to the grist mill to really only take pictures. However, we when got there the sign said closed Wednesday and Sunday..we tried to see if we could just go take a couple of pictures, but the reception was kind of chilly.

Unlike the previous reviewer, I wasn't expecting Disney World, so I didn't find Falls Mill boring at all. The mill itself is interesting to see and worth the $4 admission charge for adults. The waterwheel is enourmous; at least three stories high and is still moving water. Inside the mill are some displays of historic milling machinery and you can watch a fairly well done 5 minute video, which gives you an overview of the history of the place. There is a good sized waterfall on the grounds behind the mill and a well maintained path down to the waterfall. The creek leading from the path to the waterfall is very clean and full of fish. Doesn't seem to be a problem if you want to go swimming in it on a hot day. In order to go on the path and see the waterfall, however, it is obvious from the sign at the start of the path that you do need to pay the admission fee. However, I have no problem with paying a nominal fee to see such a beautiful place. Someone has to pay for the upkeep and the owners of this land have done a great job with maintaining it. To get to Falls Mill look for Old Salem-Lexie Rd. off US 64, when you get to Old Salem. Falls Mill is off Old Salem-Lexie Rd. and there is a sign for the mill off Old Salem-Lexie Rd.

The falls and grounds are pretty and give a nice place to relax and enjoy the view and sound of the falls. Don't pay for the tour/speech of the mill itself. You get a very short video and a look at some old mill equipment for that. Unless you really like old machinery parts there is no reason to pay this. It is over priced for what you get and it is boring for adults. I'm sure you can imagine how boring kids must find it.The waterfalls and grounds are pleasant. For locals or people in the area it is worth a visit. I wouldn't plan a trip there from out of town just to see Falls Mill. There just isn't that much to it.

Charming and beautiful ... The scenery is amazing! The people are very friendly. We took 6 children and had a picnic. They got to play in the water. You can stay as long as you like! A must see and a great inexpensive day trip!!! Gift shop with a player piano $0.25 to play... Is wonderful too! Self rising cornmeal is great and the recipe on back of bag makes a great cornbread!

My kids and I went last fall for family photos. The grounds are beautiful and we plan to return when the mill is open. It is a quick. easy drive from Huntsville.

Nice day trip. It was super cool over 30 years ago when they had peacocks on the property. The adjacent "bed and breakfast" log cabin was quaint, with window A/C units and a pretty chimney -- two story with rocking chairs on each floor. We didn't go inside. The player piano (in the gift shop) is painfully loud. Don't bother with it unless you have ear plugs. LOL. All in all a pretty day trip. Super peaceful with the sounds of the waterwheel which propels the grist mill and the adjacent waterfall. A super easy walk to everything you need to see. And they keep it SUPER clean. The covered pavilion looked like a great place for a picnic. Some cute fishies swimming in the water too. Go here. Once. At least. Bring your camera, it's a nice scenic place.

Falls Mill is exactly that, a flour mill founded around the 1860's. It offers the usual experience attached to a historic landmark, a grinding stone showing how flour is made, a gift shop, and access to Bean's Creek below the mill. Overall this location is definitely peaceful and is a good place to stop and unwind on a long vacation. However, the kids won't last long and when I was last there some of the locals were swimming in the creek in what appeared to be their underwear. A lot of history, a cheap price, and overall a good and peaceful stop for the hectic trip taking pace.

Our family always enjoys a trip to Fall Mills. The museum / mill is quite interesting and the pastoral scenery is beautiful. The products are ground from local farm produce and are available in the store. This last visit we brought a picnic lunch and sat at the back of the mill on one of the picnic tables and watched the water wheel at work and enjoyed the waterfalls and gently-flowing stream.

Falls Mill is a working mill. It is in a beautiful setting. Ideal place to spend a nice quiet day. The couple that owns the place work there. They are very friendly and very knowledgeable of the history of the mill.

We drove to Falls Mill, Tn over weekend and was impressed with the beauty of it all. Great photo shots. It is a very small mill, so don't expect alot there. The real beauty of the place is the view from backside looking up to the mill & falls. Just awesome. A small fee gets you into the inside of mill and gift shop. They give you a short history film and lead you to outside to glance down into the falls & see wheel up close. Only negative is they should emphasize more to people to not forget to walk down hill behind mill for view. This is the best part and we would have missed it if not asked how to get there. Otherwise, don't miss that part --- picnic table nearby too. The beauty and serenity is wonderful and worth the trip here.

It was great to see this operating mill and go back in time. It is located in a beautiful setting in the country.
