We visited Horsin' Around with our 10-year old granddaughter. Carvers come from all over the country to spend weeks or months carving and restoring (mostly carousel animals). The founder of the business, Bud Ellis, was there to show us around and was great with the kids. All the carvers took time to explain the process and what they were doing. We were honored to have Bud accompany us to the Carousel in Coolidge Park in Chattanooga to see (and ride) the finished product in action. Here's the link: http://www.horsin-around.net/

I wish I could go carve a carousel animal! This place was great, the people working spend time to tell you all about how to carve the animals. If you want to spend a week, you can pay and learn the trade. We just went and toured and took photos of the works in progress. There happened to be a group touring at the same time, so we just toured along with them. It was informal - no talks or anything planned, just friendly discussions and demonstrations.
