This bridge is ¾ mile long and is only for walking and jogging, I would imagine that in the early days it was used by the horses and carts and early motors as the walkway and roadway is made of railway type sleepers, we walked across then down town an came back over the second road bridge. Nice pleasant evening stroll.

Brilliant idea to turn and old bridge into a pedestrian walk way. This is why Chattanooga rules. I wish I could have had my bike with me. Maybe next time.

We took the ghost tours the last time we were in town and the tour guide took us to Walnut Street Bridge for a portion of the tour. Our initial visit was brief and we knew we'd have to spend more time on the bridge the next time we were in town. I love that it is bicycle and pet friendly. We walked our dog across the bridge from Northshore to downtown - then back again. A really relaxing stroll witih great scenery. LOVE IT!

Lots of fun ... and exercise ...on a nice day! The bridge can get very crowded. No cars allowed...just folks out for a nice walk.

Great place, right be the art museum to go for a walk - in our place with a stroller. The whole art district is great. Take small roads/paths and see outdoor sculpture and find a good coffee shop, then walk across this bridge to see a fabulous view of the river and a great alternative perspective of the museum architecture.

This bridge is a lively place for a walk and to "people-watch". I believe it is one of the longest pedestrian bridges around. Built before 1900, it carried car traffic for years. Instead of tearing it down when it became unsafe for autos, it was changed to a pedestrian bridge, and links downtown and Coolidge park on the north shore. A great place to walk!

It was very pretty. I mean... for a bridge it was great. There were dogs and people and a pretty river. There are pictures of what the view looked like in the past.

This is a great accompaniment to the TN Riverpark trail. The beautiful views of this pedestrian only bridge should secure this area as a top choice for visiting runners.

Walnut Street Bridge, built in the late 1800's. The world's largest walking bridge connecting downtown Chattanooga to the North Shore. Very nice and interesting. Do not miss it.

This is one of my personal Top Five things to do in Chattanooga when friends are visiting. The bridge itself is a beautiful structure. I ask my friends to take a guess at how long it is. Rarely do I get a correct answer of just under 1/2 mile (.45 mile). Be sure to walk to North Shore and meander around in Coolidge Park and look up to enjoy the beauty of the bridge from underneath. Be sure to pet the bronze Great Dane by entrance to south side of bridge.

Check before you go. Was there week of February 9, 2015 and bridge was closed to pedestrian traffic. Might want to check before you go.
