montgomery reservoir

This lake is absolutely beautiful! A little challenging to get to in a normal vehicle; jeep or something similar is better for the gravel roads. Caught lots of trout on spinning rods; used little spinners & also power bait with bobbers. Had a blast! Also the hike up to the waterfall & old mine is worthwhile.

We had heard that this was a great place for trout fishing. A trip to Walmart to buy poles, license and worms - great day! We didn't go any further than the water, but it was beautiful!

Take county road 4 about 11 miles south of Breckenridge. It's a dirt road but drivable with a sedan, SUV would help, just go slow. The reservoir is beautiful and we were here in September and it was not crowded. You can drive all the way back to a waterfall and gold mine. Stay on the road going on the right side of the reservoir. Road gets pretty narrow but it' s drivable, some potholes, just go slow! When you get to the other side of the reservoir, there is a beautiful waterfall that has a trail to the deserted gold mine, takes 5 minutes to hike up too. Not strenuous at all but totally worth it.
