The locals say it's very hit and miss. We've never had luck fishing here. It's not well marked and not particularly pretty.

Beautiful lake! Visit at least a couple times a year. Fishing this year hasn't been as good as past years. Weather was great the last couple trips. Great pictures to take home. We will be back.

I visited this facility with the sole purpose of checking out the tailwater fishing for trout below the dam. I cannot offer advice regarding camping, boating and fishing on the reservoir although it looked like there was an abundance of happy campers there. I was disappointed in the tail water segment of the Yampa River below the dam, both because the segment was short and because it was totally roped off with limited access. I was scouting this facility in preparation for a fly fishing jaunt with friends in mid September. As a result of my exploration, we will forgo the 14 mile drive from US 40 to the tailwater and concentrate instead on the Yampa near and in Steamboat Springs. Further reducing the attractiveness of the tail water segment is the fact that you still have to pay the daily use fee of $7 even though you never venture past the entrance gate/fee station

We had been camping at national parks in Colorado before we came to Stagecoach. We had to pay for parking per day at Stagecoach, which we didn't need to do at the national parks. Also, there is some major price gouging at the store. Ice is $4 a bag, so stock up before you come. The lake was nice for swimming and the views are nice. You should bring shade sources because there are not many trees. Also, bring hand soap because there is none in the bathrooms. Showers are a dollar for four minutes so stock up on quarters. o

(let me add this: The locals is trying to change it's sole reputation as a fishing location and now offering many activities for the family... like swimming and programs.)Stagecoach is known mostly for one thing... fishing. The state record for Pike was caught here and it has a lot of pikes. There are some walleyes also. Trout (rainbow, cutthroat, and brown) are there also, but harder to catch due to the pike eating them all up.. lol. If you go there to fish, consider this (as can save you a lot of time and frustration):If you're going for trout, fish by the dam... not the western inlet. The western inlet is good for night fishing and mostly smaller ones. The bigger one are nearer the dam where the cold water is (which trout loves) and you can get some good size ones. Pike and Walleye are also near the dam and abundant in Pike and Morrison Coves. (those are the two that are the no wake zones and southern boat ramp - the entrance rangers can help you... and are on CR 16 on the southside of the park.)The park also offers a shower facility, which is handy if camping out a while. You're also about 20 minutes from Steamboat where there is a Wal-mart and City Market. Oak Creek is closer, but offers little outside of small town offerings. If you need internet connection, there is a McDonalds, a Wendy's, and a Starbuck all next door to each other just on the southside of downtown.
