We go to the Platte river every year in the summer. It is a great place to swim, tube, and just hang out.It is free and its fun. They do NOT have any concessions,it is not wheelchair accessible(to get down into the water, but the path is ok for a chair/stroller).There is no life guard of anyone "on duty".

As you walk along the areas of the South Platte you can get to, you can see clearly that this was once a large river with large trees growing along it. The problem is this is just one of many rivers in this area that has suffered the same fate. The area is becomming more arid every year. Combine this with high water usade for farm use and there is almost nothing left. Years back the local counties piled large amounts of broken concrete to try to keep the banks from breaking down. Even this has done little and the water depth is only about 12" most of the year. The area is mostly silt with thin coats of mud and silt. Marine groth does exist in the summer months.
