We had an amazing time fishing with our guide (Alan I believe) from Cutthroat Anglers. He took us a little North of town to get away from everything and to see some amazing views of the Colorado river and the Rocky Mountains. Caught some awesome fish even while it snowed heavily on us while wading in the river. Will always remember this trip!

I have nothing but praise for the staff at Cutthroat Anglers in Silverthorne, CO. Recently my wife had to attend a conference in Keystone. And she invited me along to play while she worked! What better opportunity to go fly fishing. Being a novice, I chose the guides at Cutthroat because I have had very positive experiences in the past having used their guide service twice before. On the morning of July 11th the friendly staff in the shop helped me fill out the usual paperwork which included a fishing license and waiver. Then I was assigned to an incredibly knowledgable and patient guide named Allen Stretton. Allen help fit me with my wading gear while we talked about how much walking I wanted to do. He suggested a good spot to go to on the Colorado river which required a 1/2 mile trail walk to and from and quite a bit of wading upstream. He had other less strenuous options if I wanted to park closer to the river, but I wanted a challenge. While driving, he explained the various categories of fly lurers and how to decide which to use. Before we hiked to the river, he reviewed how to tie the leader, indicator and fly. Which knots work best. And we practice casting and stripping. Although it was obvious to me that he enjoys fishing, he made it a point to make this day about teaching me proper methods and being safe on the river. He brought two rods, one to be used as a backup. In my profession, I teach for a living. So I recognize the talent and patience Allen demonstrated. All in all, the staff in the shop who make the reservations, organize the tours and the guides present and past, like Allen make Cutthroat Anglers a great choice for those who want an educational, safe and positive fishing experience best suited for the physical abilities.

Great first experience fly fishing. Everyone at Cutthroat Anglers was very professional and knowledgeable. My guide, Mike Dunaway, was great. He went out of his way to give me the basic skills I needed to have success, and he worked extremely hard all day to make sure he put me in good spots to catch fish. It would have been a great day on the boat either way, but catching a large number of fish made the experience exceptional. Also, In addition to the great guide service their fly shop is top notch.

The day float trip down the Colorado River was arranged thru Cutthroat Anglers in Silverthorne, CO. Caught a bunch and missed a few as well. Nothing better than the 18" brown & 20" rainbow. My guide, Jared Hawn had the patience of Job teaching me the art of fly fishing Planning on doing it again when I return next year.

I booked a half day float trip with Jared and it was incredible. It was my first time fly fishing from a boat and I couldn't have asked for a better guide. I caught a few good browns and rainbows and lost a few due to my own mistakes. He was patient and very helpful, rowed his butt off, and I learned a ton and had a blast. I will be back. The day started out a bit cold, as so we planned the start a bit later in the morning and the day warmed up nicely. Jared even paid attention to my travel schedule, making sure that he had me back in time to make my flight. A++

I fish many times a year around the West, and despite living in proximity to excellent fly fishing water, I am now passing up solo opportunities closer to home to take guided trips with Cutthroat Anglers. My past experience with other guides and other fly shops has not been so memorable -- for a long time I avoided guided trips because of this -- but after several float trips with Cutthroat, it is apparent to my wife and friends that I am hooked. This is a class outfit that takes great care of their clients. Importantly, they work hard, and they know the water, the weather, and the bugs. Reed Ryan consistently gets my fishing buddies and me into more fish than we can manage, but we land enough to generate plenty of confirmatory pictures and ear-to-ear grins. I recommend the experience of a full day float trip if you can swing it. If there is any criticism, they make it too easy to book a trip and catch fish until your arm is sore. So no doubt the staff at Cutthroat will see me again.

Recently, I entertained 8 clients and coworkers in Silverthorne for the sole purpose of fly fishing. There is no other place in the area that treats you like a "rock star" than at Cutthroat. The guides are awesome and the attention to detail and experiences for the "rookie" fly fisherman was a wonderful experience for my guests. This was my 6th time to have the honor of fishing at Cutthroat and with the one and only Reed Ryan, which I must say is a great guide, fisherman and now someone I can call friend. Jimi, Brandon, Adam, Matt were great guides as well and my clients and coworkers had a blast on the river. If you want the best fly fishing experience in Colorado, you have to go to Cutthorat. My husband and I did a Colorado River fishing trip before our elk hunt with Adam. He did an awesome job. We caught several brown trout and 2 where VERY nice. Sorry Adam I didn't land more, I'll practice before next time - LOL. Seriously, this was my 1st time ever to fly fish and we had a wonderful experience. The views on scenery on this trip were also fabulous!!! We saw several eagles and one golden eagle, which was incredible!!!!!!!

I have been fishing with the Cutthroat team for the past 7 years. Each year I host several guests on float trips and have yet to be disappointed. Whatever the conditions mothernauter has thrown our way they adjust and find "fishy" water. On the most recent trip the guest (who has been on like trips in mulitiple locations) commented that from the staff in the shop to the guide on the sticks it was the best all around team he has been exposed to. Thanks again for another great expeirence for both my guest and myself.

I took my 68 yr old Dad on his first float trip on the Colorado River with Cutthroat Anglers for his birthday last week. What a fantastic experience! From the minute we walked into the fly shop, we treated as welcomed guests. The gear, transportation, lunch on the banks of the Colorado River and our Guide were all first rate. My Father caught several beautiful browns...not bad for his first experience fly fishing! Considering a guided fly fishing trip...USE THESE GUYS!

What a fantastic all day float trip we had in September of 2012. My wife had never flyfished and she recived exellent insruction form our guide, she caught the 1st brown trout, the biggest brown trout and the only rainbow of the 30+ caught that day. We are already talking about when next September we will do this again. All of my questions were awncered and I have improved my river fishing expodentaly. Just do it..... Photos to follow

As a regular client of Cutthroat Anglers for 15 years, I have interacted with all the guide and shop staff and never been disappointed. They are enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and professional. I have never had an experience with Cutthroat that was below par. On the water, they know exactly where to row or where to stand to put the angler on the fish. Even on days when the water is horrible, the weather is ungodly, and the fish are sitting on the bottom of the river with their lips glued shut, the guides exhibit an enthusiasm and a humor that makes the day nearly perfect (if you don't mind being pelted by sleet, but there's nothing they can do about that). They provide detailed instruction about how best to approach the trout and what flies to use, and are accommodating if the angler has a preference on where to fish or with what to fish (though they may laugh a bit when you get to know them better). I think so highly of this shop that I have frequently recommended it to my friends and family. They always return thrilled to have had such a wonderful fly fishing experience even if they are first-time anglers. I also feel perfectly comfortable sending my female friends to Cutthroat because I know the gentlemen there will behave like, well, gentlemen.Overall, this is the best fly shop I have encountered and highly recommend it for anyone-- families with small children, teenagers (I am so sorry), elderly grandparents, you name it. Cutthroat will take care of you and your family and you will have a wonderful day on the water.
