I have done this hike many times during my trips to nearby Mt Elbert Lodge and every time I love it! It is a great hike but not too hard and not too long. And the reward at the end is great! Each time I have gone they have renovated more and more of the Interlaken area. So, so beautiful to be among the aspens and the lakes. Take some lunch, sit on the porch when you get there and enjoy the beauty!

Hiked with my husband's family to Interlaken this summer and had an absolute blast. I wouldn't recommend taking young kids on the hike, as it took around 45 minutes to an hour to get to the site. But once we arrived, we had a beautiful view of Twin Lakes and exploring the home at Interlaken was very cool.

We enjoyed the walk along the lake, among the aspens. The Dexter house is stunning, along with the remains of the Interlaken resort.

We took this hike on a tip from one of the staff at the Twin Lakes inn we where staying at and where not disappointed. What a view of the lake, and who new that there was actually something of historic interest at the end of the trail.

Lived in the area over 30 years and knew nothing of this hike. Any easy 45 min hike around the first lake of the Twin Lakes reservoir. Beautiful un the fall, not heavily travel, gradual slope and ends up at the historic area of Interlocken. Highly recommend for families and friends that are not used to more strenuous hikes.

Terrific views of Colorado's highest mountains as you hike along the lake. The historic reconstruction is first rate. I'm in my 60s and greatly enjoy hiking here; just wish the access road to the trailhead could be repaired as I scraped my car on some of the large rocks in the roadway.

We hiked the rolling trail into Interlaken which was fun and beautiful. If you prefer not to hike the 2.5 miles, you can buy a ticket for the boat to take you across the lake. The buildings were built in the 1880s and it was amazing to us to imagine how many man hours it must have taken to construct the house and resort. The Forest Service has done a great job of restoring and maintaining the buildings. Not all buildings are open yet. There are no bathrooms or drinkable water.
