Really loved the variety, length of the rides and the scenery. We rode from town which was a nice alternative to driving to the parking area. Wasn't very crowded and we got far enough out that we saw almost no one else.

These summer trails can start in town. They are well maintain & well traveled, with nice flowers and views. More spectacular trails are at higher elevation (Oh Be Joyful, West Maroon Pass to Aspen)/ Thank you, City of Crested Butte, for rehabbing an preserving these trails!

The Lower Upper Loop is a biking trail that is scenic and is at 8000 feet above sea level. If you love the outdoors, PLEASE take this fun trail ride. Be careful...most of the trail is easy to ride but there are sections that are rocky and a bit tough. We just walked our bikes over these parts and there weren't too many of them. I would NOT take kids on this ride because it might be pretty tough for them. This is part of the Crested Butte recreational trail system and is free. You can get trail maps from any of the bike rental companies in town.

We are beginner hikers to Colorado's trails, and we thoroughly enjoyed this loop. Very pretty views!

We did the lower loop after Lupin and loved the views and trails. I would highly recommend for beginners to bike or hike this trail.

Wanted a less concrete-y walk into town this was a great alternative. Got directions from the folks in the mountain bike shop at base to the trail's beginning (good thing, would not have found it otherwise). Shady, goes through some Aspen groves, then took Tony's Trail until it hit a private road (open for public use but no dogs) which went into town. Very pleasant walk.

Because we Crested Buttians like to make things difficult, there are two parts (more or less) to this trail - Upper and Upper Upper. Basically, the trail wraps around the western flank of Mt. Crested Butte and takes you on a fun jaunt through the aspens. They're basically two halves of the same trail. Hiking wise - they're fine. No big climbs, just undulation. Biking wise - they're two different animals. Read on:The Upper trail starts (or ends - depending on your perspective) over by the condos near Mt. Crested Butte. It winds itself through aspens and except for one stretch of rocky riding, it isn't really technical and appropriate for most riders with some skill and fitness. The Upper part ends basically at Tony's Trail - a trail that takes you down from the flank and eventually into the town of Crested Butte.Upper Upper begins, more or less at Tony's Trail and the riding becomes much harder. Lots of woop de doos that require decent spin skills to handle. There are some more technical stretches but it really just tests your fitness and bike handling abilities. Many a recreational biker has turned back on Upper Upper. Just know what you're getting yourself into and if you are riding with someone of less skill or fitness level, take Tony's or the Skyland exit and celebrate the day with a frosty one.

When you are surrounded by some of the most beautiful natural landscapes this country has to offer, it is hard to say that the Upper/Upper Upper loops are the best. They are perfect for anyone looking for a day walk around Mt. Crested Butte that is easily accessible and not to difficult of terrain. The Skyland Boulders is a wonderful spot for bouldering and the views are the town are fabulous. But it comparison to say hikes out to West Maroon Pass or the Mill Castle Trail up to Storm Pass, the Upper/Upper Upper loops fall short. If you are looking for wilderness and adventure that will challenge you but leave you breathless, this is not the trail for you.

It was fall break so there wasn't anything going on in CB.... just the way we like it! It gives you a chance to be alone on the trails and soak in all the beauty. Wear layers in the fall because it can change temps with the winds and the fronts. The aspen trees were almost whispering to us as we walked along!

Our son took us on the Lower Loop with our mountain bikes. What a beautiful trail. We managed with only a couple of stops to catch our breath (or walk) as us East Coasters need to get use to the altitude!

Good for beginner mountain bikers, but no cake walk! The trails get narrow and rocky but not too steep. Beautiful scenery and cows staring at you as you ride by.

Here is what we do: We park at car at the country club and then drive up to the trail head at Mt. CB. Then everyone hikes (gentle downhill) to the country club and has lunch out on the veranda. It is an easy hike for beginners and young kids.

This is a very easy hike along the river with beautiful views and tons of wildflowers. Just take Butte Ave to the second parking lot and there are several different trail options to choose from. You will have to share the trails with lots of mountain bikers.
