This was a really great museum that I wish I had more time at. you learn about the history of the area and crested butte and there is a really great diorama that is fun for kids of all ages.

The museum only costs $4, but that is double what it should be. $2 would be more than fair. It looks like there's a lot of collected items from locals and then a museum was made. I don't need to go over the history of the town, I am reviewing the museum. If you want to know about the town, talk to the volunteers and they will give you a better oral history than the visual one from the museum. I mean, every town, including yours, have some history.. complete with characters, events and sites. Crested Butte is no different than any other small town in Colorado (like Paonia) and the museum doesn't really show much except what has affected CB in the last 100 years. Don't mean to offend anyone.. but just being honest. (gulp) the better thing to do is to get a walking guide of the town and do that.

Helps to see CB evolution from silver mining community to anthracite coal mining town to ski resort and mountain bike destination. Loved the stories, the photos and the sense of place.

Spend an hour viewing Memory Lane. Learn about previous immigrants who made this country great. Think about about how safety has improved.

Its housed in the old Texaco hardware store/gas station that anchored Elk Avenue in Crested Butte for generations, and it couldn't be a better location. Friendly local people staff the place, and you can spend hours, literally, browsing the available items of CB history, and its also pet friendly! If you have the time, especiallly during the daytime, make sure to take a tour of the mining/skiing museum in the back!

Really good history of CB and the mines. Our grandchildren loved it. There is a table display of the way the town looked during the mining days, complete with a train. The docents are super. The gift shop is stocked with items that complete the theme and there is something for everyone. The gift shop is in the old general store and one side is still stocked with the vintage items (not for sale).

I like the condition of the museum which originally a hardware store. I liked the photo collection of the former residents.

We stopped at this museum to learn more about the history of Crested Butte and the people who founded it. It worked. There is a model of the town with a functioning model train, information on the geography, interesting facts about the local mines and a mining disaster, a display of the evolution of skis, antique household appliances, and a wall of photos and biographies of the colorful people who made the town what it is today. Many Slovenians and Croatians were early settlers. The gift shop is well stocked and has many unusual gifts and souvenirs.

Another must-do in Crested Butte. The CB Heritage Museum has so much to see and offers so much to learn about the Crested Butte History including skiing, mining and mountain biking. Kids really love the old train set which runs through a replica of town.

Little museum, used to be where Tony's Conoco was. I didn't pay to go in the museum but enjoyed the "general store" in front and the great history of the town!

The history of CB is unique and interesting. This museum does a great job of sharing the story. Well worth your time.

This small museum is worth the few dollars admission if you really like small town museums. It pales in comparison to the wonderful museum just 28 miles away in Gunnison. But this museum does have character. It's located in what was once a general store and the village's first gas station. The front of the interior is very small town general store in nature, and a gift shop is in the adjoining room. There is one other room with displays, including some about coal mining in the area and a scale model of the village. The lady at the counter was wonderful about giving me directions to other sites in the town -- the cemetery (great views), the old coke ovens (apparently gone), the old mine (apparently obliterated), the old depot (now the Chamber Of Commerce), etc. I stop at local museums to give them my financial support, and that's the primary reason to stop here.

This museum is housed in an old building that served for years as the town's hardware store and only gas station. Although Crested Butte has grown a lot since those days, it retains much of that mining town charm. This museum is part of that charm. In addition to a collection of beautiful photographic portraits of the 'old timers' of Crested Butte and memorabilia one might expect, the Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum is also home to the town's mountain bike museum. Keep in mind, the mountain bike was simultaneously 'invented' in Crested Butte and the bay area of California. You can tour the place in about an hour, leaving with a better perspective on Crested Butte.

The Crested Butte Museum is a new museum in an old restored hardware store known locally as Tony's Conoco after Tony who ran the store and petrol pumps for over 30 years. They have maintained the old store and have a great Museum store with lots of unique stuff. The Museum tells the history of the Crested Butte area, its geology and the people who have made the area their home, from the Ute Indians to the miners, ranchers, skiers and mountain bikers. A very accessible and interesting Museum. A must visit.
