Sprague lake is a nice place to snowshoe. Beauitful snow covered trees surround the lake. I enjoyed the fairly flat trail around the lake and it is easy to follow. I think this lake is a great hike for families or people still adjusting to the higher altitude. Moose have been spotted at this lake! Truly neat.

We come here because it is a great location to see the sunrise. During the day, there is a nice trail around the lake, however, in January it was iced over (and most of the lake was frozen). Crampons and hiking poles are strongly recommended in the winter. During the summer though, it is an easy hike. And in the fall, we have run into elk in the parking lot. We will go back.

On Dec. 5 we walked part of the way around the lake near dusk and then watched the full moon come up over the lake. Awesome! Sprague Lake is always a great stroll, but it was very special that night. Went back on the 8th to see the Divide. Fantastic as always. This lake is a must see while you are in RMNP. This stroll does not take long, but stop to see the beauty and take some photos.

We got up early one morning, and by early I mean EARLY (4:00), to drive into RMNP and watch the sunrise at Sprague Lake. We took some outstanding pictures! The lake is very peaceful and is an easy walk.

It was a snowy trail to the lake on a beautiful day. There were some icy areas too. Along the path, we saw fresh moose droppings that got our hopes up of seeing moose along the trail. But we didn't have that luck. I recommend the short hike to the lake.

As you are walking to the lake, notice the lengthy beaver dam to your right...pretty impressive. Beautiful view!

If you have a variety of ages in your group, there is hardly a better place to visit than this beautiful lake. The trail is level and easily walkable. There are a couple of other trails in the local area. If you get there in the late afternoon you might be lucky enough to see some elk wading through the shallow lake.

It was a beautiful hike around the lake, and completely accessible. Only about .5 mile, but the entire area is fantastic with plenty of picnic tables, nice open lawn areas, trees and restrooms. Will definitely do this again.

We meet lots of fishermen on this short walk around the lake. They were not having any luck but as we were leaving we could see lots of small trout. All in all a lovely place.

Sprague Lake is my favorite in RMNP. It is handicap accessible so the paths are wide, but what I love about it is that the mood of the lake changes so much throughout the day and throughout various weather conditions. I've been there when it was sunny, raining, and sprinkling. Each time it captured the lighting in a different manner. Always a surprise, always a pleasant walk, always nice people on the trail around the lake. A very enjoyable and peaceful place.

Do yourself a favor and get here for the sunrise. It is simply wonderful to see the early morning light on the Continental Divide, with reflection on the lake. I was lucky that the lake waters were very still. The path around the lake is easy and pretty as well. It's hard to get a bad view in RMNP. But the early morning view is hard to miss if you can make it there in time. Highly recommended.

Quick stop here - and it was beautiful. Be sure to look for all the trout in the stream leading to the lake. There was even a wedding going on while we were there!

Beautiful lake to visit while you are at RMNP. An easy trail to walk around the lake and the views of the mountains are awesome.

A nice nature walk is what this place is all about. Take time and take the short stroll around the lake. It's a wonderful area and if time allows bring along something to barbecue. The picnic area is very nice too. No dislikes about this wonderful area.

I'm hard pressed to call it a hike - its really a walk around the lake. Its an easy half mile walk, totally flat. Good for all ages. There's limited parking here so its best to use the park and ride for this location. There's a porta-potty style bathroom and a couple of park rangers were on site when we were there. There is no food concession here.Bear lake is prettier but Sprague is nice.
