Sagtikos Manor is a step back in time. A guided tour is provided and a thorough history of the building is given, culminating in the kitchen where cookies are served.

I love this place! They give tours with reservations and have events scheduled here like a antique flea market in the summer and Christmas tours in the winter. The house is exactly as it was years ago furniture still in place etc. The volunteers who give the tours are friendly and informative. They have a gift shop as well and you can tour the grounds. I would return.

This amazing house is over 300 years old, and each section was preserved in its original condition, so a walk through the house is like a walk through history. A volunteer docent explains the history of the house, the furnishings and the families who lived there. George Washington slept here in April 1790!

What a wonderful place to visit during the summer months to recapture over 400 years of LI's south shore history. Originally purchased by Stephanus Van Cortland in 1692.....then owned by the Thompson-Gardiner family since 1758, Sagtikos Manor offers tours of the house, the grounds, the Carriage House, the cemetery and the beautiful gardens. Oh, I almost forgot......President George Washington slept in the Manor during his Presidential Tour in 1790!!!! Sagtikos Manor is a must see while visiting Long Island, New York. Located in Bay Shore.

Interesting Long island history, you get to see how they lived back in Washington's day. A map of the original property was enlightening. I've been to the mansion a few times over the years, it's a nice way to spend a few hours!

This house is fantastic. WHen you enter, its not at all what you would expect. The guides are great and its nice to have such a cool place right here near home. Save some time to visit the graveyard and walk around outside.

This was a treat to any who love historic properties, proof of what loving preservation can do to bring history alive. The dogwood and azaleas were in bloom in May. Sagtikos was built ca 1692. Our visit was pre-season, so we did not have access to the house tour. However, Celeste, director of the Garden Committee, gave us a delightful tour as only one who loves a place can do, through the restored peony garden, bred from the original flowers of nearly a hundred years ago. Pres Washington stayed a night in April 1790 during his presidential tour of Long Island, Celeste described the outbuildings and took us thru the family graveyard, the original tolling bell, and the story of how the weather station was restored.

I grew up right around the corner from here and it's been part of my childhood. Across Montauk Hwy is Gardiner Manor's Park, where you can walk your dogs down to the beach.
