To see how families lived back then. The mansion is beautiful, the park offers a horse stable, duck pond and pool & cookouts during summer months.

This City park is a zoo - and not in a good sense. The people, the facilities, the overall atmosphere is ghettoish at best and downright unacceptable at worst. Stay away, do not bring your family.

Van Cortland Park is one of New York City's public park gems. It is intensely used by many different ethnic groups for many different sports, and yet there are still remote areas that feel like you are in the country side. Horse trails, cross-country running trails, long linear paths (Putnam and Aqueduct) that go for miles and miles up to Westchester can be accessed from multiple train lines. Lakes and golf courses and an old cemetery round it out.

Like all parks, there are trees & ponds & flowers & animals. But, in Van Cortlandt Park there are COLORS! You can watch the seasons change in this gorgeous & vast park filled with so many colorful leaves which change in every season. My favorite part is the large section on Broadway. Here are ball fields & after school soccer teams from neighborhood schools. It's gorgeous! The Bronx can actually be very beautiful! ;)

A great park for family, children and friends to hang out. The track is a great place to walk or run. There are plenty of activities for the kids. In the summer, the pool is open and they also offer swimming lessons. Great place for a BBQ or just to sit, read and relax.

Huge is not the word for this park. Super huge might be a better statement. There is so much that this park has to offer that one has to map out your own desires while visiting this park. From horse back riding to baseball, to basketball, to football. It goes on and on and on. Enjoy the great shape this park will put you in.

The 1,146 acres cover ridges and valleys in the northwest section of the Bronx. It's accessible by subway take the 1 train to the very end. It has playing fields of all kinds (you can often catch a game of cricket on the weekend on one of the cricket fields). It has the nation's oldest public golf course that is beautiful so tee up. It has a lake, too. Did I mention the Equestrian Center? Give it an afternoon.

Huge park. they have everything here and you can do everything too. In the summer they also have the pool which is ok if you go in the morning is better because in the afternoon it gets kinda pack w/ the young teens and it can get annoying when you want to go for a dip especially during the heat wave.Excellent for jogging, running and bike riding.

I have been so busy so I have not been back recently. I rode past the place to get carrot cake at Lloyds and forgot how wonderful it really it. A true gem of the Bronx and you can always get the best carrot cake in the world right there.

I love the trails here! This is such a great place for a run, espeicially if you start near the Equestrian center in the northern section of the park. This is a real cross-roads of cultures, too. You can easily spot Indians playing croquet, Carribeans playing baseball and Dominican's having huge picnics with all the fixins and music. It's a treat to see. True Bronx.

My wife and I went to Van Cortland park to see the 2012 New York Philhamonic concert.Despite we arrived there 1 hour earlier than the concert starts, It was very hard to find a parking spot. The orchestra played Wagner,Tchaikovsky and Brahms. As soon as they finished playing, fire works started. It made the audience excited more. All I can say that,it is free. It is not only saving your money but also giving you free mind.If you are a New Yorker, you should see the concerts in the parks once in your lifetime.Tips; Bring your chair or seat. Bring your food and drinks-not alcoholic beverages If you are sleepy during playing, sleep on your rug. Nobody bothers or blames you. That's why I love New York.
