Rented a nearby house with my extended family and had a great time! Great conditions, good lift ticket deals for the area and my wife and sister in law got good beginner packages to learn to ski! The only things I would complain about are that 1. there is only 1 real good long intermediate trail and our young kids couldn't ski the Diamonds quite yet, so we tended to ski the same trail most of the day (but it was a good trail) and 2. It gets really crowded on the weekends to the point where it can be aggravating. But I would say the staff deals with the crowds about as good as they possibly can and they do it with a smile! The prices for food, drinks and even tickets are the typical ski resort expensive, but also I thought they were very accommodating. I bought a toddler pass for my 4 year old at 9:00 and by the afternoon, he decided he didn't want to ski that day. They let me trade it in for a gift card. It was only $10 but I didn't go up to them until 2:00 and I thought they had every right to tell me to take a hike, but they were great about it. I also overheard a conversation where a guy had bought some passes earlier in the year for his girlfriend who had injured herself and they let him transfer them to his name. So I felt they weren't trying to rip anyone off and saw multiple incidences where staff went out of their way to be upbeat and excited (Like the lift ticket checker asking us if we were having fun and trying to make it a party type atmosphere) So the layout and weekend crowds are minor negatives, but helpful, friendly staff more than make up for it and make me want to go back!

Hunter is a great place to ski if you live in the area or coming up from NYC or NJ. Conditions are great and the trails are well groomed and taken care of! Avoid weekends if you can, higher prices and longer wait lines but if you have to hit the slopes on the weekends it's not to bad! There are enough trails for everyone along with multiple running lifts! The staff is well organized and keeps the lift lines moving well. Max. wait time may be 15-20 minutes for the main six pack lift. Less than 5 minutes for the smaller lifts! During a typical weekend day you can average about 17-20 runs if your a good skier. Weekdays you could easily do 20+ runs in one day! The staff is friendly, they are even friendlier during the week when I think they don't have to deal with to many stupid people on the lifts and trails lol. The overall cleanliness of the resort is very good. Food is over priced but what do you expect at a resort. Bring your own sandwiches, snacks and Gatorade. Lucker rentals are 5.00 a day, but it's a bit of a mad house in the locker area on weekends, I suggest you avoid it on weekends. If it's your first time skiing take a private less. My first experience skiing when I started last year was great after a 2hr private lesson, so worth the money! Please stay on Hunter one till your comfortable! Do not, I repeat do not go up to the top of the Main Mt. on your first time skiing, your going to hate it and possibly get hurt! Overall all my experiences at Hunter have been great and I ski there about twice a week! Hope to see you on the Mt.

My family and I took a day trip to Hunter Mountain to try our hand at skiing. We purchased a beginners pack with lessons and equipment included. We took a bus leaving from LIC and we arrived rather quickly. Once arriving at the mountain everything fell into place. We checked in suited up, and moved on to our lessons. The mountains weren't as intimidating as I expected, but I still took my time moving up gradually. My son tooka bit more risk than I and he really enjoyed his self. We all had so much fun we're already planning our next trip. I'd recommend Hunter Mountain to beginners and people in need of a break from the city.

Our kid is just learning how to snowboard. Fantastic instructor in Rick Hoyt! Smart and thorough with the basics. Facility is well designed to accommodate patient parents, toddlers just learning how to manage a pair of skis or hot-doggers on the double diamonds. Food ok, but not outstanding. EMS/First Aid area seemed well managed. But, to charge $3.50 for bottled water? Outrageous. Bring your own.

I was lucky enough to catch the snow conditions just right for a trip to Hunter Mountain on Feb 19, 2015. I was in NYC on a family trip for a week. I had always wanted to ski in the east after skiing over 300 days in the west and Europe. I went online and found a bus day trip from 42nd Street by TakeTours.com and Urban Sherpa. The bus trip worked as advertised and had the benefit of a beautiful scenic ride to the Catskills.Skiing was great and area uncrowded at mid-week. Small mountain, but runs were very good and some up to two miles in length. Easy equipment rental by doing online ahead of time. I simply walked through each station where they had my gear ready for me. Was on the slopes 30 minutes after getting there.I go to New York almost every year in mid-Winter. I will plan an extra day, every year from now on, to ski.

Went up to Hunter to give skiing a try for the first time. Chose this particular mountain because it is relatively close to the city and transportation easily accessible. The first day I took a group lesson under the impression that "group" meant 5-10 people... in reality there were combined groups of 5-10 students each of varying athletic ability, resulting in lines of 50 or so to practice in each "zone" or learning station where the instructors teach and progressively advance their students. Very disorganized and kind of dangerous. The second day I signed up for a private lesson with Roman who got me comfortable on the skis to navigate the green trail by the end of two hours. For a beginner with zero experience, very happy with the outcome of my first ski trip but only because of the successful private lesson. Could do without the lines at the check-in / waiver / rental stations but the staff are pretty efficient at streamlining the process so just be sure to get there early and if possible, avoid weekends! Also, would be in remiss not to mention the cafe food - your typical selection of sporting environment food (hot dogs, popcorn chicken, pasta bowl etc) so not the pinnacle of health but everything tasted awesome.

My wife and I went to Hunter Mountain at the last minute to take advantage of an overnight snowfall and warm temps. She's a beginner and I'm more advanced, but no expert. The mountain is beautiful, the lift lines move fast, the slopes are challenging and fun and the people working the Learning area and the lifts were very professional and nice. Now, the hearding required for rentals is a completely different, and not particularly positive, experience. This particular morning the 'boot' guys had no interest in your needs and were busy snacking between tossing boots at you. The others (helmets, skis) were very friendly but the boot boys really mess up your perception in a hurry. We will return but now we understand what to expect and will be getting more personal attention with rentals from another place.

Came here with some trepidation but it was terrific. The rental place was very efficient. The slopes were great for kids

This resort offers a lot to anyone visiting. You can ski, snowboard, cross country ski with great conditions. Other seasons offer festivals, music and the great zipline. A professionally managed resort with many options to keep you intrigued.

If you are a beginner they have a great lesson/ rental package/ half a mountain lift pass. Lines are long but go quickly. Longest line of your day will be the rental line. Get there early!

I went to Hunter Mountain Snow Tubing Park over the last weekend and we had a ball. My family came from Florida so they were all excited about tubing. The girl at the window was very nice she also made some great food recommendations as well. The lift attendants were all so great there were even some young people training and they did a great job. Both sides were open which was great. Lots of snow. Also the ladies in the food place were funny they all made us feel very welcome My family can not wait to come back next year. The price is also great.

My son and I had a great visit to Hunter Mountain. Conditions where great all day -- I think it was partly because to all the recent natural snow. It wasn't too crowded, employees were great.

Great experience: friendly stuff, variety of terrains from beginners to experts. Fast service to rent the ski and in the cafeteria. I like the benefits of a Big lift card: besides discounts for a lift tickets, you can have one free group lesson to improve skills, can invite a friend, and he will have a same discount for a lift ticket. Can be crowded on weekends, so come early in the morning.

The customer service, esp front desk, are totally untrained. They make you stay in lines forever either can not read the confirmation email or just because they prefer to serve somebody else "quicker".
