american maple museum

We found ourselves in the area, and had come across this museum in our research. My dad grew up in a maple syrup-producing area, and I had always been fascinated by the process, so we decided to take a look. We had trouble finding it (stupid GPS), but were embarrassed to discover we had driven past it twice. It's located in town, across the street from the gas station. You really can't miss it. If you find yourself surrounded by fields, as we did, you've gone too far down Rt. 812 (way, WAY too far).The museum itself surpassed our expectations. The self-guided tour is very informative and they have many fascinating maps and artifacts. We loved the gift shop as well and loaded up with lots of locally made (both Croghan area and NYS as a whole) maple products. A worthwhile stop, for sure.

This is an interesting museum if you are intersted in the history of maple syrup production. Nothong spectacular but worth a stop if you happen to be in Crogjan. Many artefacts some of them related to timber. They are graduallu refreshing the small bulding and opening exhibition rooms. Croghan is located in north western New York State
