Hick's Orchard is on the annual list of Fall Must-Do's! There's a variety of U-Picks throughout the apple picking season with plenty of trees to choose from, a barn-full of guilty pleasure delights such as their outrageously delicious apple cider donuts (on wknds prepare for a line outside), already picked pecks/half-pecks/bushels, apple cider of course, maple candy galore, honey, collectables, ornaments, etc. "Happy goats" have their own slides to play on for the kids to enjoy and pet. And wine for the adults to take a break and enjoy a tasting...or five. Picnic tables, restrooms, plenty of parking with easy access and best of all majestic views of foliage in the countryside. Stop by or enjoy a bit longer outdoors - exploring!

If you set out to go apple picking on a warm autumn day this is the place to go with kids. They have gentle goats in a giant playpen. They have pumpkins, maple candies and delicious fresh baked cider donuts that you can buy warm and by the dozen. There are jams and jellies, fresh apple cider and a "winery" where they feature apple wines made from NY apples. Its not a whole day affair but pleasant enough for a morning past time. Follow the signs from the public highways near Granville as this place is definitely off the beaten path. On really nice days be prepared for a crowd. Those of us who are lazy can buy apples by the peck, half peck or by the bushel. For those who are more energenic you can pick your own...and all you can eat are free!

On the recommendation of a Lake George local, travelled 45 minutes east to Hick's, described as a long-time family trip for pick-your own apples and other farm products. It was raining, so we opted for in store. Everything was superb, apples, cider, cider donuts, lots of local and near local products. Plus, they distill alcohol on premises from apples, offer tastings of assorted products for $1. Excellent products, worth a country drive!
